Boater
Hi I saw an advert in the BKK Post saying there where introducing the new Freelander 2 to the market here in Thailand. as i admire this version of the freelander ( looks like a mini version of the Range Rover Sport ) i thought i would take a look on the official website to check out the price, but it was no more !! now www.landrover.co.th diverts to www.landrover.co.uk and even when i go to .uk site and navigate to the thailand site it brings me straight back to the uk site ?? .. thus there is no official site for land rover in Thailand anymore???? anyone know whats going on?? or even just the price of the freelander 2? thanks
Digger
Your probably better off calling Thai Ultimate Car on Vibvadhee Rangsit Road (the old road out ot Don Muang airport). They were/are the main dealer for Land Rover in Thailand and can probably answer your question. I would imagine though if they have that model it wont be cheap - somewhere around 4,000,000b would be my guess
billd766
There is/was a Land Rover dealer out on nthe Bang Na Trat highway between Central Bang Na and Lotus Tesco about 3km further on.
Plus
Freelanders cost around 2.5 mil, as far as I know. On the road it's no match to Fortuner/CRV in terms of power and acceleration.

ignis
Don't forget Landrover went Tata Freelander 2 now is import only and the price has gone up by 1.2 million, so the BMW X3 is cheaper to buy here
Plus
For the price. It's still cheaper than Accord/Camry but has bigger and more powerful engines than the rest of car market here. Look at what Fortuner owners praise it for - it's fun to drive. Step on gas and the thing flies. It also feels more exhilarating because of the high sitting position. CRV is a choice for girls, of course, but when pushed it also runs fast.

solent01
There used to be a dealer on the 107 going north from Chiang Mai city, closed about a year ago, but when they were asking just under 10 Million Baht (£150,000 at the time) for a top spec RRSport which at the time was going for just over £60,000 in the UK, I can't understand why they closed One day they might learn that the import tax is killing the f'ing market. skippybangkok
If would have to be if your willing to pay the price2009 Land Rover Freelander 2 New Price: 3,990,000 !!!!!!!!!! There is no mathematical correlation between Landrover Quality and its price. Look at the Range Rover, one of the worst in the series. Grant
One day they might learn that the import tax is killing the f'ing market. Killing? The import tax help to build automotive industry in Thailand. You can see what happen in Far East of Russia - there is huge amount of second hand cars from Japan and they don't like to have any non-Japanese car. This kind of import really kill the market and local industry
Plus
It works both ways - one one hand it helps to build local industry, on the other hand it stiffles the competition, most importantly transfer of new techonology. Practical example - complete lack of locally made diesel driven cars. I read that in Europe they make something like half the market already, here we have only imported Ford among "mass models", if you can call Ford that. ignis
Lets not forget that an American car bought in the UK cost almost twice the price of the same car in the USA.. Did anyone check the price of a Thai built pickup in the UK, I remember reading early last year it was almost double what you would pay here. jakbkk
Land Rover has been sold to Tata group and the distribution rights in Thailand are now owned by Global Fleet Sales (as the gentleman above noted). there are only 2 remaining service centers in Bangkok - the old dealer TUC on Viphawadee-Rangsit road near Sutthisan Intersection (you won't miss the BIG Land Rover sign on the building) and the new service center on Rama 3 road (near Central Dep't Store) operated by Guava International (i think one of GFS subsidiaries). I OWNED a 2005 Freelander which i recently sold. it was a good ride but very expensive to maintain. a trip to the dealer would always cost a minimum of 8-10K (every 20,000 kms. service interval which meant yearly for me). i'm NEVER gonna buy another Land Rover because of this. Subarus are looking good with the plus point of service costs totalling about 2K (i think per 10,000 kms) for the Forester and from what i read in the forums it's totally reliable and doesn't need a lot of maintenance. btw, the Freelander 2 or LR2 is almost 4M baht while the top end model of the LR1 was 2.4M baht. Brigante7
Freelander 2 now is import only and the price has gone up by 1.2 million, so the BMW X3 is cheaper to buy here Amen True but then the BMW isn't half the car the car the Freelander is. After driving both of them I would take the Freelander over the BMW anyday.
conversionman
Hi Boater - Ever thought of importing a Freelander in to the country? We run a prestige conversion business in England called Kahn. Ever heard of it? I am wanting to find an agent in Thailand but I struggle to find a company. Visit my web site www.projectkahn.com you will like this. If you want me to find out about shipping a Freelander to you then I will - we export vehicles all over the world. Spoonman
The distribution rights for Landrover in Thailand are not owned by GFS but as mentioned by Guava international, the parent company is RMA Automotive, RMA owns Guava and GFS. jcon
There is a new dealership on Wireless Road (almost on the corner of Wireless and Sarasin). The company is called British Motors. That's right. Here it is, right near the corner of Wireless and Sarasin (just north on Wireless from Sarasin, on your left - I took this southbound on Wireless): In another part of town (Suk 62) I snapped a pic of the new ''owners'' of LR, Tata. I think I wept for a moment: Boater, I'm a fan of Land Rover and as such I just can't really recommend a Freelander. I dunno, to me it's just not a real LR... You mentioned the RR Sport, which I think is an incredible machine - I'm itching for one. But with the P38 I have a great mechanic (P38 specialist - right up the street, which is a definite plus)... Some pics I took when I picked up my car: White on 22"s Another on painted 20"s from the L322 "Wrapped" in Matte Black (50 large for stickers!!!!! - but heck I think it looks great........) 22" blades.... I love the tint on this one I'd say if you're willing to shell out for the Freelander, just get a used RR Sport!!!!!!! - a completely different league (like 3-4 leagues, maybe 5...or 10). Freelander2: Range Rover Sport: Yes, they may look similar from afar - but really it's no contest... Just my 2 cents. (IIRC if you get a 2005-06 RR Sport, you'll get the BMW-sourced 4.4L V8 which IMO is a sweet engine... I think the later (**Ford**) engines came from a Jaguar.... even more reason to go used, and go for the one with the most BMW genes). I wish BMW kept LR.
