Thai Girlfriend Looking For A Job

Recommended Posts

my thai girlfriend would like to find a job on samui, where could she start to look?

I mean, are there some job classifieds or internet sites for thai people?

She finished university , has basic english language skills and has some experience working at the reception of a resort already.

She doesn't stay on the island yet, she first likes to know some adresses or telephone numbers she can contact before she comes here

Well, in order to get a job she needs to be here. Not the greatest time to apply for a job, but then again, there are always open positions. Start with thailandhotelier.com and watch local cable TV for further classified.

google Azure Recruitment Koh Samui

Azure are a recruitment agency on the island, she can email her CV to them

otherwise, get her to come here and just visit all the hotels, as most hotels have notice boards outside offering jobs

Thanks

The boards outside of Tesco (1 board) and Big C (2 boards) are crammed full of job offerings (amongst other crap). Some are written in English and a lot are written in Thai but this is a good place to find work for her. Maybe you can take a digital pic of the Thai postings and send it to her.

The most profitable work is in the bars. Or, similarly, she can work freelance by going to Reggae Pub or Fusion or whatnot after the bars close. You could make some arrangement whereby she only goes short time so that you can sleep together every night, unless of course someone is willing to pay big money for that privilege, in which case you'd have to let her go. If she is anything close to a looker and has some charisma, she should do fine, even in the slow times which are coming.

Since sex in Thailand doesn't have the same coin as it does in the West, you needn't be jealous or anything. It's just another way to earn a living here, and for most (educated or not), it is far more financially rewarding than working in a hotel or restaurant. Moreover, this work has flexibility that other jobs cannot offer. Once you get into a salary job, you are pretty much locked in to working nearly every day and often 10 hours or more (and usually on your feet). Pretty hard to take time off to go, say, to Koh Phangan for a few days R&R.

Working in higher level positions within resorts could be possible if she has a degree in accounting or something, but those jobs are scarce.

I mean if it were you, would you want to work your butt off for 5,000 baht a month, or get that in a week escorting tourists?

Your obvious obsession with bar girls starts taking bizarre forms. :o

Very strange post? and I don't see the humor in that at all. Firstly I would imagine what you just wrote would be insulting to the OP and his girlfriend... Get a life really!

Rather offensive from a man of your obvious intelligence. The poster is I'm sure fully aware that jobs as a hooker are availale all over the world. However that is clearly not what he is seeking advice on for his girlfriend. Now let's start a discussion on how we can find a job for your wife or girlfriend as a prostitiute! In the unlikely event that you have one of course!

Cheers!

was a bit of a Random Post by Mark

but i will put it down to living in Lamai far to long !.... it can effect you :o

yes, a bit over the line.

BUT in Lamai there are only 2 kind of girls, the bar kind and the 10 hours per day 7 day a week hotel staff.

The place is starting to look to me very different from the "Paradise" of the turist brochure...... :D

How do you know? How do you know that this is an impossible option? Are you the poster in disguise? Because that is the only way you could hope to see into someone's mind.

My post was factitious for those who recognize it as such, and my honest assessment for those who understand my unvarnished truth.

Let me also just add this: I have known more than a few Thai ladies who were working in bars who ALSO, AT THE SAME TIME, had Thai boyfriends. The Thai men had no problem with this working arrangement (nor did the women) because they understood the true nature of the situation.

If you condemn this attitude as "offensive," then you condemn the local men who think nothing of having their woman work in the bargirl trade. Are all bargirls offensive since they are the root of this, what with their occupation being called into question? Be careful how you answer...it might be wrong to tar and feather such a large proportion of the female Thai working population on this island.

But then I was only joking, see? Bargirls ARE lowlife, undereducated, lying, cheating scum. I mean, everyone knows that. Even though the pay is a bit on the light side (and don't believe the "tourist industry pay on average [is] 12000-18000 baht per month." These figures are academic concoctions that bear little merit here on Samui), working in a restaurant or hotel is the badge of legitimacy. Money isn't everything and truth be told, most people get by in Thailand on very little. The folk who work in the Lamai 7-Elevens and clones, for instance, seem to have been there a very long time, so something positive must be going on. So any job outside the escort business is good.

OK Sorry I should have said "let's JOKE about how we can suggest your wife or girlfriend becomes a prostitute! Sorry! As for my mind reading skills, let's just say maybe they were not too inaccurate considering the original poster's later response to yours. But hey! Who is scoring? By the way when I need a lecture from you about how things work over here, I'll wait till you've been over here as long as I have (There go my mind reading skills again!). However even then, you jokingly or otherwise, suggesting someone's girlfriend would best become a prostitute will still not be funny, as most responses to your post suggest!

Cheers!

Yes, grandpa...I think you forgot to add at the end, "Young man!"

...however, if you do see a glaring error in my analysis, please point it out. You didn't say I was wrong, mind you; just that I shouldn't lecture.

However even then, you jokingly or otherwise, suggesting someone's girlfriend would best become a prostitute will still not be funny, as most responses to your post suggest!

This is where you get into problems of semantics. Just the word, prostitute, for a Westerner brings up quite negative connotations. I'm not trying to lecture you, or anyone, but what I see is that "working bar," while technically frowned upon in Thai society, is more acceptable than we might think. I think it is naive to think that such a large population who engages in escort services in Thailand (AND their beneficiaries, don't forget) are degraded humans engaging in an occupation that is offensive. The number of families who somehow depend on the economies of the bar trade must not be insignificant.

My point is that the OP wanted opinions. He got mine. It isn't some whacked-out notion; it's something that goes on all around us without a great deal of scorn.

OK, how's this on-topic footnote: Try Thai-language Web sites for Samui jobs. I assume they exist.
