Saw the film Bangkok Dangerous last night as wondered if anyone knew:

1 What is the name of and where is the resturant that he goes for a Thai meal with the deaf girl is?

2 Where is the cave temple that he goes to with the Thai girl?

Anyone who has seen the film should know where I am talking about.

Thanks

I have seen the movie and I know what you are talking about. I think it would be difficult to find out the restaurant location, but the cave temple should be possible. I have seen something similar near Khao Yai in Nakhorn Ratchasrima province. I'll see what I can find.

I saw them filming it in the witches tavern on thong lor about 2 years ago, I remember they made a huge fuss because Nicholas Cage was there... I haven't bothered seeing the movie yet but maybe thats it.

Just googled Witches Tavern and I don't think that is the one. The resturant looked to be on the edge of a lake (maybe the river?).

BTW - the movie is pretty good. I enjoyed it.

Is the movie good?

I don't think it won any awards, but I enjoyed it! A little cheesy, but not too bad. It had enough action to make up for it, and the plot was decent. Plus, the appeal of having been filmed in Thailand.

EDIT - To add to my previous post about the location of the cave temple being Tham Khao Luang: successive Google searches suggest that this is correct. You can also search for the location name in Thai script with the movie title for a few Thai language search hits.

Search for: ถ้ำเขาหลวงBangkok Dangerous

I can confirm that some of it was filmed in the Witches Tavern on Thonglor. My mate saw them filming.

Cheers, Rick

This documentary style film show to great effect what a contract killer goes through in planning his assinations.

Its very accurate and frightening.

The temple cave scene was actually a reconstruction filmed later and made at the famous Pinewood Shepperton James Bond studies in Borehamwood near London.

I watched it a couple of nights ago.

It's not a classic, but I enjoyed it location spotting and my wife enjoyed it because it gave her the chance to see Thai actors and Thai food hmmmm.

Has anyone seen the original Thai version? I keep meaning to get hold of a copy.

An interesting and previously unknown fact was that the 'floating market' chase scene was actually filmed in St Ives in Cornwall and local residents from two nearby Thai restaurants were used as extras. Fruit from the local Sumerfield store store was used though no durian could be found.

Is the movie good?

Terrible movie. I won't get into details beyond saying the script was weak, the direction was weak and the editing haphazard. Cage himself is okay and the potential was there for a much more interesting film.

Agree. Weak, but harmless. Entertainment value 5//10 (maybe 6/10 because of the special interest in Bangkok/Thailand)

If your talking about the restaurant when he is eating tom yum and sweating the name is Nathong Seafood Restaurant.... Huay-Kwang. That is one of my favorite seafood places in Bkk, I go there all the time. It is next to the Pornsiri Driving Range...

Ok great, that is the one. It looks nice. I don;t get to Bangers much but when I am next in town I might check it out.

The temple cave looks to be some way from Bangkok, anyone any ideas how far it is?

Thanks

If she wants to see Thai actors, show her the original version of Bangkok Dangerous in which basically all actors are Thai. I enjoyed that film quite a bit. The one with Cage is a remake of the original, though most here probably know that.

I thought it was a great movie and captured Bangkok quite well. It showed that Thailand changes people a captured their minds. Which it has done for so many. For some in the wrong way. But it's true Thailand captures people like nowhere else. And the movie showed that.

I quite enjoy watching Nicholas cage in most of his movies. He does a great job.

One gripe about the movie is the Title!!! There is already a movie made a few years ago in Bangkok called Bangkok Danerous. It's a thai movie about a deaf thai guy getting caught up in Bangkok criminal life. It was pretty good and I found it in the Foreign Language section of the video store with the other action asian movies.

But most of you guys didnt know it and the same goes with the rest of the world so they just stole the name. Of well, good movie. I want to see those places they visited too.

Perhaps someone can post both of places addesses in the one post. Maybe someone can set up a tour of the movie :o I would like to meet that dancer girl :D kidding.

The original Bangkok Dangerous was a 1999 film written and directed by the Pang brothers (Danny and Oxide) of Hong Kong but set in Thailand and which used an all Thai cast. It was primarily a low budget art house film which received good reviews internationally. The newer Bangkok Dangerous was a poor remake of the original with lots of script changes. It was primarily made to capitalize on the Nicholas Cage brand name and was thoroughly panned by the critics. The name was not stolen. I'm sure the Hollywood film company paid the Pang brothers quite well to use it. There was another thread on this same subject several months ago and most TV viewers found it to suck. I agree with them.
