Korn wants new land tax implemented

BANGKOK: -- Finance Minister Korn Chatikavanij vows to push for a new land and property tax bill to create a more equitable society in the country.

Mr Korn said he had promised the public since he took office that he would pay more attention on reducing the gap of social inequality than increasing the government's revenue.

The new land and property tax bill would benefit farmers whose agricultural land values were small, he said

The minister said many senators and MPs together with some opposition members also supported the idea of imposing progressive tax rates on unused plots.

This would stimulate development of unused land, he said.

well all land in Thailand is theoretically owned by the Thai people collectively and way back when each (male) citizen had a notional amount of land - but not georgism not least because not equal 'ownership' (bigger / smaller depending on status)

as to the story its the usual spouting of an empty vessel

Does it mean that the owner of a condominimum unit has to pay property tax every year after the introduction of property tax?

the extent (and vagueness) of the proposals are contained in the quoted article

This law will never be enacted.
