Severing a body part is very extreme and there can be no tolerance or excuses for it. It's on par with Pakistani men throwing acid in young women's faces after being spurned in their advances. Is that also a som nam na? The sicko woman should be charged with attempted murder - and given the full weight of the legal consequences. No excuses and no chuckles. The man could have bled to death. Was it in Thailand? Was in the Phuket gazette 'queer news' section.. It's a few years ago now, but my recollection is that: 1. the helium assisted ascent took place in Khorat 2. the victim was a taxi driver 3. the couple stayed together after the incident 4. the report appeared in the English-language press; I distinctly recall not translating it for the benefit of my better half.
