Ian Curtis
Here on Chok Chai 4 we had about a 5 minute power outage at about noon today so perhaps there was a chain reaction. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hi Lopburi........or maybe it was a 'train reaction'! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> What can we expect? The Thai's can't even organize proper driving examinations and test so how on earth are we expecting them to run a high tech subway system?? expat98
Just curious - who designed/built the Bangkok subway? (Which company?) Was it a local company or was it designed/built by foreign engineers?

Humphrey Bear
Compared to the London Underground the BKK subway is an absolute dream. For starters it's suicide proof, nothing more annoying than some nitwit deciding to kill himself when you need to get somewhere in a hurry. How thoughtless. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The Thais buil high-rise condo's for the farangs to do the one-way flights. Another one this past week-end in Pattaya - View Talay 2. Remeber that London underground is well over 100 years old, many times the length and handles many times the number of passengers. HK MTRC was built in the seventies, joins Kowloon to Central (on the Island) handles over 2 million pax per day. Singapore is also larger than Bangkok, had a few teething problems, but now seems to work very well. maybe the little kiddie-train that is Bangkok's show-piece will eventually work properly, but I have my doubts. There is not the technical competence available at the wage rates the authorities will wish to pay.
