DaiMai
I was awaked by the sound of fire crackers, frightening away all the foreign devils, which no doubt is intended to include myself? For a nation that claims to be Thai, it is remarkable how many people celebrate the New Year of a different nation!! Perhaps it explains the paranoia shown by immigration over a few farangs who would like to make Thailand their home.

FYI Chinese New Year is not for the country China. It is for all chinese race around the world. And incase you don't know, most of the Thais are mix of chinese blood. do you belong to the people that would say "What? China is still in 2004?" I was told everything would go smooth and nice for me this year ...

pnustedt
certainly not year of the cock. Actually year of the Rooster is just a western translation. It is year of the chicken! There is no Chinese translation to Rooster! Just western romanticism!

Oleg_Rus
the coming lunar year (not chinese btw) is the year of adult male chicken and if someone want to call it Rooster - good for both of them. also, the colour is blue so can say "the coming year will be marked as a year of : 1. Navy blue fighting cocks 2. Sick poultry 3. Something about new viagra pills etc. anyway, it has nothing to do with any western religion, so for christians and others means nothing Xe Who Did Da Bitzh?
