Visa Run To Cambodia

Featured Replies

We are a British couple who have been living (2 years now) in Pattaya,Thailand with multy entry'o' visa's. Of course, we have to do the visa run to Cambodia every 90 days. Has anyone got any advice on how we make the visa trip ourselves? i.e. Forms to fill in and where to get them, also which is the best border to go to.

We have heard of 'The Red Lion', on soi 6, doing a visa run to a different Cambodian border which takes a similar amount of time as the others, but there are less queues so done in a faster time.

Any information gratefully received, but no jokers thanks!

From Pattaya it is hard to do runs on your own. Transportaition is the big problem. The other border crossing you have heard about is probably Ban Laem. I will leave it to others with more experience doing the runs to make suggestions.

Have you ever looked into doing it by flying out and back. You should check airasia.com for flights to KL. It does not cost much more than an organized border run costs if you purchase in advance. Plus there is no visa charge for Malaysia so no big visa stamp each time.

Hi ubonjoe, just for interest sake I looked on airasia for a flight to KL and the price is 4,865 baht return. So I think it may have gone up since you last looked mate. Nice idea though.

I said to purchase in advannce. I just changed from June 13 to July instead of spending a lot of time.

Yes. Loads of promotions including free. Pay Tax only, but you have to plan well in advance.

I do a visa run to Ban Laem every 90 days with Good Tour Travel on Second Road. Costs 2000 baht and we're only at the border for about 30-40 minutes, with lunch provided free in the casino while we're waiting. Never had a problem with them, start out about 6-30 and always back before 3 o'clock. I went last week and a Belgian guy on the same bus was telling be he tried to 'do it himself' on his previous border run. Not sure which checkpoint he went to but it wasn't Ban Laem. He went by bus, the Cambodian visa cost him 1200 baht then he had to pay the immigration officer 500 baht tea money to get his passport stamped in time for him to catch the last bus back to Pattaya (because they were 'very busy'), and they still kept him waiting for 2 hours even though people with visa run companies were going through quicker. In the end, he said, with the bus ticket, it was more expensive doing it himself and he didn't get back to Pattaya until after 7 o'clock in the evening. He said he'd never do it again.

I get your point ubonjoe, I never looked that far in advance. As you say maybe worth thinking about for the future.

No very familiar with public transport from Pattaya , but by using a Tour they will sort out all the paperwork and you do not worry about the transport, etc.

If you have own transport you could go to 4 bordercheckpoint .

Aran/PoiPet, which is the big and busy place.

Ban Laem/Daung ,which most of the Pattaya operators take their customer, very few people.

Pakkad/Prum , close to Ban Laem , some of the Pattaya operators go there, basic area ,but no people .

Koh Khong Island, further away than all the 3 other places.

Or you do a fieldtrip further away, by bus to Laos , or Mae Sot or take the palne to onther country.
