My apologies if this has been asked and answered before.

Optus C1 Satellite at 166 E on the Ku Band.

I know a little about this stuff but i am no expert. I know what Channels on this service are avaiable and how to get them. After looking up all the data, Lyngsat Etc.,with the size of the footprint, it should be quite sufficient for me to get a decent signal here in Bangkok.

I guess I could expect 'rain fade' in really bad weather, but I could live with that.

Q. 1 Does anyone have this within the Bangkok area?

Q. 2 If yes, What Box are you using (I have a DREAMBOX 500-S) but I would be quite willing to get another

Currently I have a 2 Mtr Static Dish locked onto Intel Sat 8 on the C Band. Using both a Dynasat F1 and Deambox

If I am able to get Optus C1, I will change the LNB back to C Band, reposition the dish and get a DTV System to compensate.

Thanks

The position is wrong, its on 156E and its a ku band positioned on Auz not c band so not available here at all.

sorry got it confused with my Intel Sat 8 I am on now, you are correct 156 E

However, I was originally locked into Dream TV (Philippines) on the Ku Band once before at 166 (PAS6?) but changed to Pas 8 C band when dream upped their enryption, so I disagree that Ku is not availabe, the C1 Sat Footprint is HUGE compared to the one I was getting Dream TV on! So I really don;t see why not.

Yes, as I said, rain fade is a problem, but thats only when you get rain and I can live with that

Rain fade on C-band is not as bad as Ku band.

I haven't looked at the details for this bird,

but the Lyngsat maps usually show the contours for the beam,

then down the side is a table of recommended dish size.

I used to have a 10ft dish in Thailand. :)

That was back in the early 90's.

yes I have looked at the map on Lyngsat, and the footprint is bloody huge! it also states on the Optus (australia) website it is avaiable in SE Asia.

speaking of rain fade. Yes the Ku Band is very susceptible in the tropics because the actual rain drops are bigger than they are in temperate climates.

A few weeks ago the ABC re-jigged their service on Intel Sat 8 C Band and the signal appears to be much stronger now, even with some of the biggest deluges we are getting in Bangkok right now it remains unaffected.

But I still want to hear from anyone who can get onto Optus C1 in BKK

Optus C1 156°E

In 2003, Optus successfully launched the world's largest hybrid commercial

and military communications satellite Optus C1, in partnership with the

Australian Defence Forces. Optus C1 is the Australian hotbird with

twenty four commercial Ku-band transponders operating in beams covering

Australia, New Zealand, the nearby offshore islands, Papua New Guinea,

Hawaii and South East Asia. Optus C1 carries subscription TV services and

Aurora Free-to-Air radio and television services to remote areas in

Australia.

here is the brochure from Optus itself, including specs, tech data, coverage maps etc
