ISP Pattaya Internet Service Providers for Performance, Speed?

Maxnet vs TOT re Performance, Speed, Fast quality to international sites from East Pattaya soi Khao Noi Location.

I am on TOT currently 2000kpbs (I think) in East Pattaya about 1.5 km up from Sukhumvit Road ( quieter side) Soi Kho Noi area.

I noticed a few weeks about the TOT flyer on upgraded Bandwidth at cheaper prices.

I think I can go up to 4000 kpbs (or whatever correct MB is) for just over 1000 B a month.

2 years ago in approx same area of Pattaya but over 2km + up from Sukhumvit when 2000 Kpbs on

Maxnet Premium cost about 5000 B a month, (before all the ISPs dropped prices dramatically & probably oversubscribed their bandwidth)

I used to get brilliant top class internet service. Then when prices dropped & infamous Telecoms cable was stolen 2 years back

that cause outage in East pattaya for 2 weeks on internet... the quality dropped terrible.

Where I moved to now in same area approx , the housing area management sort of enforced TOT for internet use, so had no choice

to take TOT.

IN recent weeks, MAXNET have open more lines so the ISP Maxnet field Engineer lads tell me they can hook me up now if I want

(they know me well, from many service calls LOL! & not a "sales" type pitch situation, more me chasing them down past few months).

I see this new TOT package price v reasonable to 4000 or 5000 package & approx 1000 Baht month from TOT,

& I know MAXNET too have similar competitive prices. (I would go Premium. up a level if I went to Maxnet, or whatever its called these days)

I find with TOT on the 2MB package. & since I work the net after midnight when in Theory all the kids are offline, which speeds things up.

in dead of night TOT still crawls, jams & hangs. v frustrating. (rebooting router ever 45 mins, disc cleans, etc anything to help speed things).

Since I am approx 1 KM closer to Sukhumvit Road than where I lived in the past & was on Maxnet then, MAXNET Engineers

tell me, being 1KM closer to the main road, will make it positive difference re bandwidth & speed.

Mu gut feeling, given the location I am in, is the Maxnet is more progressive & if I switch to Maxnet now, I think I

might with "some" better speed, quality, performance from a premium high bandwidth package, as opposed to staying with TOT

& upgrading to their new offer?

Anyone with IT Networking experience re location, & the info above I provide, can you please give me an informed idea

as to possible best solution to this?

Very grateful & thank you in advance for any advice you can offer me.

Thanks

Gerry

Soi khao noi area, you can also get a CAT hinet dsl connection, which is better than the TOT or Maxnet.

Thanks for making clear on DSLAM.

I think Via the GF translating & Field Engs for Maxnet limited with English, that is probably what

they were meaning DSLAM (next term to me) but as it happens Maxnet Office is very bottom

of Soi Khaw Noi on Sukhumvit (not sure if any techie stuff there). But in simple & probably the

DSLAM lost in translation, in the first place I lived, I was according to the Field Engs at the

very "end of the wire" on that Soi, which was aprox 2 1/2 km up from what Engs must have

been conveying is DSLAM. (I doubt I was being fed a line of BS by then, I had many call

outs re net speed, & I was almost using "waterboarding interrogation" joke) to get truth of matter.)

** An interesting comment one of the Maxnet Engs told me, I had Premier I think 4000 set up,

this is 18 months back, & because I was at "end of the wire" (perhaps distance from DSLAM &

all the kids in about 50 internet cafes before me, on the same "wire" streaming video x 1000s a night)

The ISP Engineer told me, me have the 4000kpbs premier maxnet, was "too powerful" re being

"end of wire" (over subscribed too I d guess re capacity).

So he told me to down grade, which with mistrusting reluctantance, I downgrade to a 2000 kpba maxnet Premium account,

& My God, the lad must have been right, as when at the 4000k net was crashing/hanging every 20 mins, I downgraded

& it speed up.

CAT hinet dsl connection

In laymans terms... what is difference between broadband (e.g. Premier Maxnet 2000kpbs) Vs CAT hinet dsl connection?

I seen last year a cheapo brochure promoting the CAT DSL & on back or bright orange A4 Promo sheet CAT has

a similar I think "HDSL" was term used?

I spoke to CAT previous & I know for about 20,000 B ( approx 12 - 9 months back) a person could more or less

get somthing similar to a leased line. I think the 20,000 B + a service charge was upfront for 6 or 12 months.

I checked CAT re Soi Khao Noi but where I am, due to the TOT "monoply" on the community..

CAT as per 3 or 4 months back did not have a cable down to where I am, & I would have to fund them

running Telecoms Cable approx 1/2 km exclusive for me. ( or something similar). As things are of July 2009

the ROI on that operation would not be worth it, while 12 - 18 months back re different situation for me I would

have jumped at it. ( recessionary cut backs ;-) )

So re this having to get a few 100m of CAT Teleconms run down the road for me & cost of that alone,

I do not think CAT is an option.

So Back to OP... re anyone in the area...

Premium Maxnet TTT 2MB is 1900 B (no way would I go for INDY, - Premium supposedly has "contention ration) of 50 - 100 users ( I think)

or TOT which I am 2MB or 2.5MB on old tarrif i think 2000 B (+ 2200 or 2400 :) which I right now guess i must be

on TOTs version of "Indy" (as maxnet calls there normal level).

Unless TOT has a level up akin to Maxnet Premium 2MB package & re my OP...

Do I see if TOT has a upgraded similar to MAXNET PREMIUM or do I go with MAXNET??

Anyone with any experience of similar, in this area, v happy to hear any evidence of which is better.

Thanks for help so far.

God Bless
