Where i live we have three nice island.

Koh Tao, Koh Phangan and Koh Samui.

Island people will always be island people, but some of them move for a change of scenery.

According to government statistic every year,

5% of the people of Koh Samui move to Koh Phangan,

5% from Koh Samui to Koh Tao,

15% from Koh Phangan to Koh Samui,

10% from Koh Phangan to Koh Tao,

10% from Koh Tao to Koh Samui, and

5% from Koh Tao to Koh Phangan.

In the long run, what fraction(s) of the population will live on each island?

err im guessing that 100% of the people will live on each island, cant have 50% 20% of people living on an island.

"how many people live on this lsland"

"2000"

"whats that in a percentage?"

"errrr 100%"

Data ....

5% of the people of Koh Samui move to Koh Phangan,

5% from Koh Samui to Koh Tao,

15% from Koh Phangan to Koh Samui,

10% from Koh Phangan to Koh Tao,

10% from Koh Tao to Koh Samui, and

5% from Koh Tao to Koh Phangan.

Need to know absolute or relative populations of each island to be accurate.

But if each island had equal #'s (they do not of course)

Koh Samui +25 - 10 = +15%

Koh Phangan +10 - 25 = -15%

Koh Tao +15 - 15 = 0%

Samui's growth is overstated because the other islands are underpopulated compared to S.

Tao is probaqbly growing a little bit.

Looks like Phangan will be the place for those seeking isloation/escape

100% each after all island people will always be island people.

S(-.05 - .05 + .15 + .1) = S(.15)

P(.05 - .15 - .1 + .05) = P(-.15)

T(.05 + .1 -.1 - .05) = T(1)

That's a valid point. Relatively would it be expressed as:

S+P+T = (S(.9)+P(.15)+T(.1)) + (P(.75)+S(.05)+T(.05)) + (T(.85)+S(.05)+P(.1))

Eventually Koh Samui will have everybody living there and the other islands will be deserted.

Knigt rider you are very very close. Try to get fractions from S+P+T = (S(.9)+P(.15)+T(.1)) + (P(.75)+S(.05)+T(.05)) + (T(.85)+S(.05)+P(.1))

The question was:

In the long run, what fraction(s) of the population will live on each island?

Answer should be like this, and for that you don't need the exact number of people on each island.

This is not the answer only the form in how it should be answered (Fractions).

Koh Samui 7/13

Koh Phangan 3/13

Koh Tao 6/13

In the long run: In Fractions

Koh Tao = 33.333% = 4/12 = 1/3

Koh Phangan =33.333% = 4/12 = 1/3

Kho Samui= 33.333% = 4/12 = 1/3
