Cancer Specialsts - Where?

A Thai friend has been diagnosed as having cancer of the liver.

He is presently in the Wachira.

I called the Bangkok Hospital, which, although being fairly close by, said they screen for cancer and the patient/customer is then able to stay, but that they have no inhouse CANCER SPECIALIST?!

My question is, having stated they screen for cancer, if they have no cancer specialist, why are they admitted? Comfort? Although, having seen the Cancer Ward of the Wachira, this would most certainly hasten my friend's death. No dramatics, simply that the entire ward/s seem to consist of the farthest advanced treated with the most perfunctory care.

My friend has not yet reached anywhere near the stage the other poor people have, but I feel his staying a day longer there very possibly might hasten his end.

All and any recommedations warmly welcomed. ASAP Please.

What you are looking for is an Oncologist. Oncologists also have sub-specialties. I doubt you will find a liver cancer specialist in Phuket. Maybe these links can help:

http://www.revahealth.com/oncology/thailand

http://www.health-tourism.com/cancer-treatment/thailand/

My sister recently started a company in the states which catalogs Doctor's sub-specialties as will as their focus within that specialty. I'll see if she has any information that can help.

I am afraid your friend needs to go to BKK hospital in BKK for a proper liver cancer treatment. Unfortunately its gonna cost, and the prognoses arent great. Sorry

There is no Oncology in Phuket. Patients are referred to Surat Thani or Had Yai. Radiation therapy is also available in Nakhon Sri Thammarat (better than Had Yai).

If money is no object, go to Bangkok (Bumrungrad Hospital or the university hospitals, Siriraj or Chula) or Singapore (better).

Sorry OP, I forgot about the public hospital in Hat Yai having Oncologist.

Sorry about your friend, but the prognosis for liver cancer is not good, I had a family member die recently ( in a western country)and when they discovered he had cancer in the liver they just sent him home to be with the family as there is very little they can do. Once it is in your liver you are too far gone.
