paulfr
I bought an external DVD reader/writer at Pantip today for backup to my laptop. It was hard to find as several big stores did not have them. I finally found a shop with an LG GSA5163 for 4500 Baht. I had a hard time finding a place that had 8.5Gig discs too. 4.5G was very common though. Ended up paying 250B each for 4 discs. I think they are write once, but I dont care as I am just using it for backup storage. Any comments on this subject appreciated. My search with "dvd writer external " at various combinations yielded nothing.
Firefoxx
It's been discussed several times before, but here it is again: You can make your own external DVD writer (or harddisk or cd writer or cd drive or whatever). Simply get a normal internal IDE writer and then get an external enclosure for it. Enclosures are sold at all major IT centers. They can have USB or firewire or both interfaces, and price depends on build and interface (firewire is more expensive but faster). Many external drives (with the exception of slim drives) are simply internal drives fitted into an appropriate enclosure. The price for dual-layer (8.5GB) discs, write-once, is around 200-300 baht. You'd be hard pressed to find anything cheaper. A cheap write-once single-layer disc is around 20 baht. The maximum write speed for dual-layer discs is 6x. For single-layer discs it is 16x. paulfr
Thanx FF That makes me so mad. I asked a sales fellow at both big IT stores at Pantip and he just brought me over to the shelves and said "we only have internal drives". I then said "isn't there someway to use an interanl with a laptop ... all it needs is power and a box ?" He just shruggeed and said No. I should have known not to take one No for an answer here in LOS. I ma always so astonished at how incompetent so many one encounter's here are. Anyway, I can backup 10x more per disc now.
