Huay Yai police have managed to apprehend the leader of a well-known gang allegedly involved in the robbery of up to 30 residential premises.

Pattaya, the 3rd if January 2010 [PDN]: At approximately 12:00pm, police Lieutenant Colonel Prakob Saengpring (Huay Yai Police Chief Inspector) and Lieutenant Colonel Phaksuwat Chomthanom along with an investigative team from the Huay Yai police station successfully apprehended Mr. Warayut Saekhow [21] from Rayong. Mr. Saekhow was found to be the leader of a gang of thieves that had been targeting the houses of the Huay Yai district over the last couple of months.

A special taskforce known as project "Homes in Police Hand" was setup to investigate various thefts that had occurred in the Saenruk and Sinthara villages over the recent festive season. Officers from the taskforce located Mr. Saekhow in the vicinity of the Saenruk village and proceeded to confront him. After a search was conducted police discovered that he was in possession of various items that could be used for breaking and entering a house. Officers proceeded to arrest Mr. Saekhow and escort him down to the Huay Yai police station for further questioning.

During interrogation Mr. Saekhow confessed to having been involved in the robbery of over 30 homes in the Huay Yai district over the last 3 months. He informed police that he had committed the offences in partnership with a friend and his sister. When questioned as to the nature of the possessions that were stolen Mr. Saekhow explained that his gang had targeted valuables such as; mobile phones, cameras, notebooks, jewellery, ornaments and cash. He stated to police that they would then sell the items for cash in order to purchase Yabba for personal consumption. The combined value of items stolen from the various homes is believed to be in excess of 750,000 baht.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Chomthanom stated that although they have arrested the leader of the gang, investigations would continue in order to apprehend the remaining suspects as well as the buyers of the stolen goods. To date the Huay Yai police have managed to recover 2 mobile phones, 2 notebooks and 5 baht weight in gold necklaces that were stolen in some of the robberies.

They are certainly doing the business out there in Huay Yai, but didn't I read somewhere that they are so successful at taking on the entrenched drug dealing crimnal gangs who basically rule the area, that those gangs have leaned on "their" senior police with a view to closing the police station down???? Recently the residents protested about it, but probably to no avail.

How disgusting is that. Seriously effective policing rewarded by the druggie thugs going higher up the food chain to get the station closed!
