Why My Fishing Tackle...why Why Why!

Finally my shipping arrived this week from overseas, yay! I shouted, that is until I opened the boxes up. I had a lot of expensive and attractive items to take but for some unfathomable reason my beloved fishing tackle has been removed? bought the rods on the plane "thank god" but my 4 reels and a large multi compartment tackle box (full of expensive accessories) has been removed.

There was also some tools removed from my tackle box, specialist security keys torx and the like and a special mobile phone screwdriver kit. I could maybe understand why Cusoms might remove those items "maybe". But if Thai Customs did do that in an "Official" capacity Hmmmm! would they not advise the recipient what was taken and why?

I shipped here with SevenSeas, first time and last time! their agents here in Khlong Toey delivered my treasured big screen TV on its freakin' side crammed in the back of a high back old pickup truck that was about ready to pull a wheely! man I was ropable when I saw that.

Does anybody have any experience with fishing gear being removed from their shipping, oh I should mention this stuff was all new so no contamination issues with weed or parasites etc, besides it came from one of the cleanest countries on mother earth. No, muggings here was on a budget and did not insure.....yeh yeh I know.

Same thing happened to me a few months ago. Had my shipping sent by Personal Export Services and the crates were handled by Mcneil's here in Bangkok they advised me to hire a shipping broker that works for their company. When they delivered the crates to my house many items were missing. Especially baby clothes for my 3 month old daughter. They would even steal from a baby. :)

Sorry about the fishing tackle. :)

However, the "specialist security keys torx and the like and a special mobile phone screwdriver kit" is all readily available and easily replaced in Bkk. Cheap too.

I assume you did a full inventory, including valuation, and insured the shipment. All you should have to do file a claim with the shipping company and they will compensate you for the loss.

As mentioned in the last paragraph of my post, sadly I did not. I would have been less upset if they took my DVD player or something but the fishing tackle and me have history together, it is a very personal thing and I am so pissed off about it :)

Have a story about this, in 1995 i send by airmail 8 boxes with porseline (Villeroy and Boch) and paintings to Bangkok.

Door to door delivery.

When the boxes arrived at Bangkok Duang Muang Airport costums called my secretary that we needed to go there paying tax for the goods arrived.

After walking around for 2 hours from office to office i found out that there was one box missing :) , 3 men from costums walked with me outside there building we sat with the 3 man from customs me and my secretary outside there office (cargo) on the street drinking beer and negosiating about the tax i needed to pay.

After about 6 cans of beer each, i paid them 500 Baht each and the beers offcourse.

Later i claimed the box from the shipping company,

This was a very lucky day for me :D

As we started negosiating my tax between 13 and 30 K.

In your original Post you say:

"oh I should mention this stuff was all new so no contamination issues with weed or parasites etc, besides it came from one of the cleanest countries on mother earth."

Now you claim:

the fishing tackle and me have history together, it is a very personal thing and I am so pissed off about it :)

So which is it?

I and others I know have always used Asian Tigers for delivery of overseas shipments and never had any difficulties with "losses". In fact, the only difficulties I have had and have been breakages by the unpacking team in Thailand rather than the shipment itself. I would always insure any shipments of valuable or personal items anyway.

Welcome to the Hub of Thieves. I once rode a bus going south. Nice trip, except well we rode quietly down the road one or more of the Thai guides climb it the cargo area and stole what ever they could from everyone’s bags.

You're a farang, you can afford it...besides I'm late for my "red shirt" rally. Us Thai's only support honest men! :)

Ok ok you got me, it is not all new, the accessories are 80% new and two of the reels are brand new + two older ones that I have had for a good few years. Dear oh dear Patrick you kinda missed the point didn't you. The stuff has been taken. That is the point! it's exact age and value is not. If it ever happens to me again I will be sure to quote exact model numbers with serial numbers age and full description just for you. Hey thanks for the reply though.

Are you sure Customs did it? It could have been removed from the box and retaped at several different points.

All I know is that in the Hub of Theives this happens regularly.

They (workers) open items and remove things.

One of them has my capo. Maybe he is fishing with your gear and using my capo on his guitar to strum a tune:

"Farangs, farangs, suckers you are, send something to Thailand, lost like a shooting star, when will you learn, that in the Land of Smiles, nothing is safe, even a shit load pile." :)

Yep! I feel your pain.

I had 6 boxes of stuff sent over from the UK. The company in BKK would not let me inspect the boxes until I signed for them.

"No sign, No Box". Stalemate for a few hours until I caved in. The boxes were then delivered to my home, and guess what.........

Digital camera and portable DVD player missing. When we called the company we were told "You sign already".

Stories about being shafted by Thai Customs are like a55holes....everyones got one.

Ha ha, yeh I know they do, I am only sorry that I did not research this issue more before I shipped. If I had I would have sold or stored important/valuable stuff and just replaced or bought again when here. The post further back asks the question how do I know who took it, well yes I had not overlooked that point actually and realise that it could have even been at the original departure point! but somehow I am thinking the receiving agent or Customs would be the most likely culprits. Miserable thieving lowlife bastards whoever they are. Of course none of our posessions have any real importance to us, and are easily replaceable with the vast amounts of cash that all farangs have!!

It really grips my shit this whole attitude of WHITE = WEALTH, doesn't anybody in this country understand that western countries have poverty too, and that most normal working class foreigners have to save up for ages to be able to afford a good holiday overseas. I do take onboard the culture here and how aspects of that culture breed corruption that is prevalent in certain agencies, knowing that doesn't help to relieve my anger when being on the recieving end though.

On a more serious note though I am over the initial mega angry stage about the theft of my stuff, and am now entering the thank god they did not take some of my other stuff stage :) . Judging by some of the other threads here my loss was quite small so I will just suck it up and start saving to replace it all bit by bit. wanke_rS!!!! Oooops sorry, just one last quick rant.

I should just also mention that I have written a strong letter to the company who shipped my gear, even though I was not insured I still want them to know about the missing items and especially the crappy handling and transportation techniques employed by the receiving agents here in BKK.

Dammit I shouldn't have posted this reply, I have just started imagining this scene in my head whereby there are at least 5 customs officers playing cards, all with 2 of my boxes each sat in front of them, one guy has a good hand and says I'll raise you one set of fishing gear, the other says alright and I'll raise you this lovely plasma TV and see you........just a thought.
