webfact
Blasts aimed at disrupting peace By The nation BANGKOK: -- Police investigating team believes it has enough data to make arrests The 26 bomb attacks in Bangkok, which kicked off with the red shirts' protest on March 12, are aimed at disrupting peace and causing confusion, a senior policeman who leads the team investigating the explosions said yesterday. General Panupong Singhara na Ayudhya yesterday called a meeting of high-ranking police officers and the blast investigating team to discuss the progress of the probe. After the meeting that lasted more than two hours, Panupong told reporters that two groups were found responsible for the attacks, with the latest one taking place on Sunday night at the Poseidon massage parlour on Ratchadaphisek Road. "Police have a lot of information. Arrests will be made as soon as we are ready with arrest warrants," he said. As for the Poseidon attack, the first time a car bomb has been used, he said the perpetrator had left substantial evidence. "The attacks were aimed at causing confusion and disrupting peace. If the arrests are made, there would be no more bombings," Panupong said. Meanwhile, at the Poseidon complex, eyewitnesses told police that a 40-year-old male had parked the vehicle in front of the complex at about 9pm and left without giving the keys to the valet, as is the procedure. The bomb went off shortly after midnight, shattering windows and injuring a staff member nearby. The explosion tore the vehicle in half and caught fire before being put out. Though security camera footage is available, the images were too dark and needed to be enhanced, the police said. Police say the Honda Civic, in which the bomb was hidden, had been bought from a used car dealer in Chiang Mai, police said, adding that a woman originally owned the car. The vehicle was bought by someone on March 3, but not registered yet. Police officers believe the explosion was probably caused by about 3-kilogram of TNT, planted in front of the driver's seat, being detonated by a digital alarm clock. However, Metropolitan Police Bureau spokesman Pol Maj-General Piya Uthayo did not link the bombing to the ongoing political turmoil. The Poseidon entertainment complex is a family business connected to Commerce Minister Porntiva Nakhasai, who is a member of the Bhum Jai Thai Party Early yesterday, two men on a motorcycle lobbed a grenade at the gate of state-run Channel 11 on Vibhavadi Rangsit highway before fleeing. Luckily, the M-67 grenade hit a pond and exploded underwater, causing no injuries or property damage. Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban, who oversees internal security, and PM's Office Minister Satit Wongnongtaey, who oversees Channel 11, later ordered that more lights and close-circuit cameras be added to the premises and security tightened further. Satit added that he believed the attack was aimed at intimidating the state and general members of the media. Suthep calmed fears by vowing to provide tighter security for state media and the press in general. Meanwhile, Defence Minister Prawit Wongsuwan said, "political bombs need to be ended through political means", referring to the bomb attacks. "Security officials are working together to adopt security measures to guard against bomb attacks. These attacks are politically motivated and should be ended through political means. Maybe talks should be tried," he said, without explaining. Prawit was speaking to the press at a ceremony hosted by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration to mark 228 years of the Rattanakosin Kingdom yesterday at the City Pillar Shrine. Cabinet members, as well as senior police and military officers, attended the session. -- The Nation 2010-04-06 [newsfooter][/newsfooter]
animatic
As if bombing Porntiva's family business can't be seen as political? An easy target to disgruntle or shake up Newins faction a notch. Even if most things are aimed at the Dems, Bhum Jai is certainly on the get'm list of the reds. Edited April 6, 2010 by animatic
beano2274
These Security forces need to start doing something or people will be getting killed. Also vehicle from Chiangmai, I believe that is where the Reds come from, two and two together makes four, although the target was not a so called top target it shows what people can achieve, and are willing to do for so called Democracy. This was political, scaring her out of government would be easier than getting Posiedon to close down. "hardly pillars of society" certainly we agree there. They are trying to fool the protestors into thinking that Abhisit is planning to attack them, so with the slightest provocation from the police, the protestors will react violently. Do you really think that is the right thing to do?

Let's try to keep the news reporting credible. Why do all the RED apologists always come off as being so ummmm odd.. for want of a better term. How can you NOT think it's a shame that these mostly well meaning and poor RED shirts are being lead to slaughter by a multi billionaire and his puppet leaders that have sunk to playing doctored audio to the masses? You disgrace the term Khun by putting it in your name and then acting the way you do... sadly you and your ilk are the ones that should be banned with your fear mongering and inability to see the other side of anything. Sisaketmike
How about the police investigate the illegal prostitution going on at Poseidon, while they're there? You can’t call that prostitution, a Massage Parlor is the oldest business in Thailand with fullest satisfaction. It existed already a long time ago, when people couldn’t even write or read the word prostitution. Amazing Thailand.
Sisaketmike
Why do the Reds get so upset when some group protests against them? Don't they actually believe in the freedoms they hide behind? Just an hour ago there was a red shirt meeting here in Sisaket. To be honest, I’m so fed up to see or hear anything weird like that. Most, let’s say 97% of those people from Sisaket province who made their way to Bangkok are very uneducated farmers, or jobless people. And they don’t even know what democracy is …………………………………… I’ve lived in a small “Mubaan” in the deepest north-east for one year, so I think I know what I’m talking about. After being here for more than eight years ,it’s so easy to understand that most of those guys couldn’t even tell you what it’s all about. You can’t blame Abhisit for the situation, Thaksin and his friends made everything so complicated, not even Superman could rearrange this situation. It’s very hard to understand that they don’t send some ‘specialists’ to bring Thaksin back. Example: About 12 years ago, there was a German banker who ripped a few million dollars off and flew to Thailand. His mistake was that he spent way too much money in bars in Pattaya. It took not more than three weeks and some “Gentlemen” came from Europe to invite him to his last party in Thailand. A flight back home with two guards. The big question is: Do they really want to arrest him? I doubt it. He knows too much about high ranked guys who are scared shitless. Amazing Thailand?
