I write this because I am curious if the Reds feel more entitled than the Thais in the Deep South. Comparing the Red shirts to the population in the in the Deep South. From what I have read thus far, the Reds say they are disenfranchised, oppressed, have no voice in politics and want the government to provide better services, fair enough. What happens if they get what they want and the current government dissolves, new elections are held and the Reds get a voice and the representation in government that they desire will they give the same services they are fighting for to the Thais in the Deep South? What happens if the people from the DS come to Bkk and proceed to follow the same example of the Reds? Imo the Thais in the Deep South have seen more oppression and lack of representation than any part of the country. Does anyone have a rational view point on this?

Good question. If Samak and Somchai's governments were any indication, a Peua Thai government wouldn't be too much

different as far as policy in the south. Thaksin treated the muslims like crap, and during last year's Songkran rioting, I recall how some of the

reds actually shot at mosques with guns. I would be interested in knowing if the reds have issued any sort of "policy platform"

about the deep south at all. You'd think they might be sympathetic to the muslims if they truly are all for democracy and justice and so on, but who knows. Some of these

reds worship Thaksin and his record on human rights was atrocious.

The MAIN difference is...if the folks from the south protest, they will not be PAID and fed and watered by a lunatic megalomaniac to demonstrate daily, for weeks on end, nor would they be blinded by their brainwashed support of him.

Unless another charlatan (other than a re-incarnated Mohammed;-) showed up in the south, they would not have the resources to mount this kind of protest/conflict. The "brothers" in the middle east have oil, poppies and Osama

Their issues are similar and many are legitimate, but the ONLY way the reds have been able get this much attention here, and do this much damage to the country is (obviuosly)TOXINS billions.

1 man's opinion.

The shame of it (and I mean that literally) is that all the parties (whether its the ruling party, the Red Shirts, the people in the South) know all (or at least most) of the right things to say...but then don't live it.

I'm not so sure it's different than "politics" anywhere else...but it sure has been glaring here in the past week or so.

the small problem with the south is separatism and use of violence - reds are from all over the country (including south), want elections and democracy, so they are against violent means in politics.

They are not talking about some special election in the north, but about the general election, for the whole country - as they believe, that the present government is backed by the army and not the popular vote.

keeping army and police under the scrutiny of the parliament would reduce abuse of human and political rights on the south - a good start for a progress there, as well as in the north
