suikoden5 Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 my thai gf will get a student visa to study in the uk for her master.if shes there what does she have to do if she wants to visit me here for couple of weeks?is it possible first of all?
ThaiVisaExpress Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 She requires a Schengen visa you must apply in Bangkok.
7by7 Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 You haven't said where 'here' is. Presumably it's a Schengen state? you must apply in Bangkok. Are you sure? I know one must apply in one's country of residence; but if one is in the UK as a student with a Tier 4 visa, would this not count as being resident for this purpose?

7by7 Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 At the moment, yes. But the OP is asking about an application once she is in the UK if shes there what does she have to do if she wants to visit me
ThaiVisaExpress Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 If she applies here its generally issued in 5 days .
7by7 Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 But as a Schengen visa is only valid for 90 days, one issued in Bangkok will not be much use to her if she wants to visit the OP in 6 months time while in the UK doing her masters. So, back to my question; does being in the UK as a student with a Tier 4 visa count as being a UK resident for Schengen visa purposes and so will she be able to apply in the UK at some later date? I honestly don't know the answer.
suikoden5 Posted June 4, 2010 Author Posted June 4, 2010 right now she is in thai and waiting the results of the visa to go to uk.once she is in the uk what kind of application she has to do to come in greece for couple weeks lets say.i called the thai embassy here in greece and they said to go and do it from the embassy of greece there in uk.
7by7 Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 With all respect to them, I would not be asking the Thai embassy about Greek visa requirements. I'm still not sure if she can apply in the UK. From the Greek embassy in London Before applying for a Schengen visa, please make sure that you are holder of a UK residence permit. Then check if the Greek Consulate is the competent Consulate (more info in the F.A.Q. section). In exceptional cases and for urgent reasons, this Consulate may accept a visa application from non UK Residents who are legaly present to the UK. Maybe you should check with the London embassy or with the appropriate Greek government department. If she can't apply in the UK, then she will need to obtain one from the Greek embassy in Bangkok before she leaves, as TVE says.
