myauq Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 Hi again all, My fiance and I have just been sent a letter from the embassy outlining what we need to finalise our Australian spouse visa application. It's been a year since we submitted it, so they've asked for extra documents that (I'm assuming they'll use to) confirm what was in the original application. Among other things, they said that all non-English docs need to be translated into English. That's fair enough. The original contained some documents which I translated from Burmese into English. They accepted my translations, and I also added a letter saying I'd get official translations if they become available. After a conversation with my CO last year, he said that he understood the situation and said that the translation I provided would be fine. But it's now a year later, and we also have a new CO. So it would be good to get an official translation just to make sure, but I can't seem to find any 'official' translators in Bangkok, at least anyone who will meet the Australian standards. I myself have worked as a Burmese-English interpreter back in Australia, but that is slightly different from translation (a job which I'm not 'officially' qualified to do). I also know that my translation was pretty good, because I'm a native English speaker (and my use of technical terms are spot on). I guess I will just resubmit certified copies of the original documents, and see what they say. But does anyone know what can be done if they ask for an official (Burmese) translation? Even if I do find a translator I just like to give them my tranlsation and have them verify it for accuracy - can this also be done, and/or will it be accepted at the embassy? Thanks again...
nakachalet Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 perhaps your best avenue would be to contact burnese embassy which could answer your concerns and point you to the right direction as to where to get the official translation done for this purpose. some smaller consulate does provide translation service for a fee. cheers
