Carpy,

My wife is Lao and several of her sisters live in Thailand. Her sisters have to return to Laos to get a Thai Tourist visa every 3 months. This is what they do... they return to Laos and pay 1,000 baht for a Thai Tourist at the Thai Embassy in Vientiane. This visa is good for 2 months. Once they have this Thai Tourist visa and are in Thailand, they can extend it one time for a 30 day period. At the end of this 90 day period they must return to Laos and pay for another 2 month Thai Tourist visa.

The other option is to get a Thai visa at the border (upon entering Thailand). This type of visa is good for 30 days. At the end of 30 days, return to the border and get your Lao passport stamped and then go immediately back to Thailand. This costs zero.

"You cannot get a visa for Thailand in Thailand itself. She has to apply for it at a Thai consulate."

Mario2008, I think he's talking about a visa exempt entry. Without a passport they only get a few days.

Tourist Visa = 60 days + 30 days extension

Visa exempt (requires passport) = 30 days, acquired at the border.

Visa exempt (without a passport) = A couple of days. ???

I'm guessing the OP means a tourist visa for the UK or some other country not for Thailand as he mentions the difficulty. The post is a bit ambiguous though so I can iunderstand people thinking she wants a visa for Thailand. Remember it's posted in Visa's for other countries NOT Thailand.

OP are you able to clarify please?

Sorry guy's should have made it clear that it is a Tourist Visa for Australia.

As I suspected as you posted in this forum. I'm afraid I can't help, but now the circumstances are clear I'm sure others will be able to answer.

Suggestion for the OP, on the lower left hand corner is a button that says report. Click on this and ask for this thread to be closed. As the OP you are the only person that can do this. This thread is to jumbled up by your original lack of information that you will not get any advise. After this post has been deleted open a new thread BUT make sure to include every detail for an answer. Leave nothing out.

I have edited the OP and added a topic description saying it is about a tourist visa for Australia. That should make things more clear.

I cant see any reason why a visa cant be issued to a Laos passport in Thailand as long as the passport has 6 months + validity.......After all she will have to apply at the Oz Embassy. It has little to do with the Thai Immigration.

I thankyou for your answers so far.And sorry I was not clear when I posted.I have found out thru a Australian visa agent OZVisas that if she is not a Thai resident the application will be sent to laos.I think trip to Vietiane for a week might speed things up.And lodge up there. It is alot more personal at the Embassy in laos.
