The Thai Government have so many more problems to attend to, like addressing people's distrust of government institutions. First they banned my favorite stream site MyP2P, then the banned parts of Softpedia and now they are picking up gamblers who are, on average wagering ฿400. Still, it's a better success rate than the Customs Department's record of finding 31 drug smugglers out of more than 10 million passengers at Suvarnabhumi in 2009. Not to mention the fact that each week, thousands of middle and upper class Thais gamble millions of baht at the two Royal horse racing grounds in Bangkok (and I belive in Chang Mai). As always in the land of the people with two-faces, there is one rule for the haves and one for the have-nots, perpetuated by an elite class of Police, Army and bureaucrats. No wonder there is dissent ! Is there anything more contemptible than a government that attempts to stamps out one form of gambling yet encourages another? Thailand attempts to stamp out all forms of gambling yet actively sponsors and supports a state lottery. How hypocritical can you get? Why is clamping down on illegal activities a waste of resources. If they didn't do anything you'd probably complain as well. What would you like the police to do? Ignore crime or catch the criminals? The police do ignore crime esspecially if against a farang, I have experienced this to my great cost. They are nothing but well entreched parasites, get real man open your eyes. Given the lack of social responsibility amongst the vast majority of the population it makes sense to make efforts to stop the very poor from gambling their wages away instead of looking after their family. However a blanket ban on gambling is not the way forward since it just drives everything underground and in any case those that want to gamble don't give two hoots for the law since either they perceive it as a stupid law or just plain do what they want anyway (a typical Thai trait masked by social customs). If the rule of law is to gain any headway one first has to make sure the laws are sensible and at least in some part fair. Thailand is not alone in the stupidity of the people making the laws, I think we could all come up with a host of stupid laws from elsewhere in the world - the EU is famous for them such as designating a size for what could be called a banana for sale I seem to recall, and the UK for its host of absolutely daft laws - the swathe of health and safety laws being high of the list. It strikes me some brainbox has a good idea which is then taken over by idiots and do gooders to turn into a law to make everyone's life more complicated and line the pockets of those in the know. The took everybody to the police station and nex day everybody was free. The tell us that the had to pay 5000bth for every person. As we now franchise in Thailand is big business,and it looks like that manny people do not understand that this is the case for the thai police aswell. You have to now that, to get a policejob you will have to buy yourself in.(the so called entrance payment) If they have done this, they will be provided with the company's uniform and logo,same as all the franchise company's do. The next step is to get your own nice little boot on some bussy street corners,again with company logo. The headoffice will provide their franchisees with the so called vouchers,so the customer's can do their payments to the franchisees usualy in thailand 200/500 thai bath As it is normal practise to pay for the membership,( the so called profitshare) (%?) the royal thai police franchisees is required to do so as well. They cannot stop the tuk-tuks from blocking the Port at Phuket They can also quickly stop a demonstration by blind lottery vendors. They should all hang their heads in shame. They said 1000 baht fine.....but just like week I can confirm that several Thais were arrested near where I live for playing cards...........the police demanded 4000 bhat from each of them to get them out of jail or one week in jail. 4000 times 259 = 1,036,000 baht..................not a bad take if they asked for that much money.
