Dermatology Vet For Dog

Hi People,

my dog has skin problem since one year ago. I went to many vet in sukhumvit area

and it has been a waste of money and time, very disappointed as I feel

I have been used as cash machine dispensing considerably a lot of money

(in the last year I spent more money on my dog than myself) for my dog looking the same

actually worst as the skin problem is getting an infection. I dont know where to ask.

Bottom line I have started this thread just to ask if you have some tips

where to find a reliable, reliable vet specialised in dermatology for dogs.

Some dogs have allergy problems with fleas, have you looked into this and how to control the fleas?

I have a Staffy who always gets dermatitis, I use Antihistamine tablets (just standard human ones) and Malaseb shampoo. Not sure where you can get Malaseb over here, I usually bring a few bottles everytime I'm back on Australia.

This topic will be posted very soon to plants & pets but here is my two satangs worth.

I do not live in Bangkok so cannot advise on a vet there, however our dog - a Siberian Husky developed a skin disease too, loss of hair, bleeding and outbreaks of redness on his skin.

The first thing is to find a vet who knows something about dogs, after wasting a few hundred Baht on the one in this town, I only found out from the girl who I buy our dog food off that, "he knows about ,cattle,pigs and buffalo, but nothing about dogs , or cats!.

She recommended a vet in Petchabun city.

The vet, a nice Thai/Chinese lady took a skin sample from one of the infected area's and then showed me the problems under the microscope, parasites, little transparent buggers with great teeth eating away at him.

Well he has been on a course of "Ivomectin" injections and anti-biotics for a month now and getting better every day.

The vet informed us that he possibly contacted it from other dogs, not sure how as we only meet other dogs briefly on the daily walks.

It too has cost me quite a bit of money, but he is a nice dog, all the family love him to bits!

Best of luck. About once a year my dog gets an infestation of something (during the hot season). It's not serious, but it does require a shot and a couple of weeks of antibiotics.

Good luck with your dog. My dog has terrible skin problems, allergies to fleas and ticks. The doctor gives him a product called "Frontline" which is absorbed through the skin and into the bloodstream. The results have been dramatic. Google a drug called fipronil and S-methoprene for more info. Good luck again. Treatment is said to last a month, but in reality he needs it every 2 weeks.

Advanticks is a far better product than frontline if you can get it. We used frontline for a while but still had some fleas, changed to Advanticks and no more fleas.
