In its effort to promote gender diversity, Thailand will not stop at legalising same-sex marriage, which it will later become effective this year, according to Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin today.

 

“Thailand will continue to support gender diversity after successfully passing the marriage equality bill. We are looking forward to pushing for gender recognition and sex worker laws,” he said.

 

He was speaking at the start of Pride parades at the National Stadium. With him were Pheu Thai party leader Paetongtarn Shinawatra and other senior party members.

 

Srettha also mentioned equality regarding gender honorifics, allowing LGBTQ+ people to choose their titles on official documents. Srettha did not, however, provide details about sex worker legislation.

It's apparently become BOTH good politics and good policy in Thailand for politicians on different sides to support LGBT civil rights. Good news indeed. Civil rights in general should be a non-partisan issue in Thailand and everywhere.

When I saw the headline, I worried that "going further" meant *requiring* same sex marriage.

 

But when I read the article, it's obvious that it's just another "feel good" promise that will be forgotten.

 

Like the digital wallet and abolishing wine import duty.

Looking at the picture above, I can only hope that the one in yellow will never ever become PM of Thailand.

Maybe she should spend time playing with her kids. Because her father, the criminal, who promised to play with his grandkids, has obviously no time for that.

Exactly, no need for this. The whole concept was already pretty much well accepted and integrated in Thai society and daily life.

Also the potential dangers to politicize these already well accepted concepts are apparently not appropriately understood.

In 20 years time they couldn't manage to pass the same sex marriage law. So first start with that before making more false promises

What has happened is millions of gay couples have formed wonderful families and become some of the best soccer moms and dads one could only dream of having…
