Can I Still Do A Visa Run To Mae Sai?

Featured Replies

I need to do a border run this week for my non O immigrant visa

I read the bridges in Mae Sai and Mae Sot are closed.

Can I still do it?

If the border is closed you cannot leave the country so I would say no.

Call immigration in Mai Sai. I heard Mae Sot is closed, but I'm not sure about Mae Sai

there must be a number on here somewhere!!!!

and do they open weekends?

I have 0-5373-1008 for them.

Immigration offices are not open on weekends, borders normally are. So one can make a border run in the weekend, but can't get an extension of stay.

will I only need a border run, not an extension of stay, for my non O visa then?

That depends on what you have. If you have a valid multiple non-O visa you just need to do a border run (leaving Thailand, entering another country, leaving that county and entering Thailand again) and you will get a new 90 days permission of stay.

If not, a border run will only give you 15 days and going abroad to get a new visa at a consulate might be wiser.

An extension is when you go to an immigration office, not the border crossing itself, and pay 1,900 baht for an extension of stay.

So look at your visa in your passport and tell what it says, multiple or single.
When Bridges are closed, they should make an exception, you get your extension on your return from over the Bridge. In fact the whole Visa System is a Farce.Malaysia seems to show the way,and China is more honest,no hidden pitfalls by ambiguous rules

You need an extension of stay to want extend you non O VISA.That has to be done at an Immigration Office

As soon as you leave Thailand, your current non O VISA entry is terminated.

You need to have another VISA or your current non O VISA to be Valid for another entry.

Mae Sod is closed, Mai Sai seems to be open according to reports in this topic.

Mae sai is always open unless there is a war with burma

any news on these borders ? which ones are open and which are closed ?

my friend is after the info. and he has no internet - his runs out on the 4th aug.

he lives near mae sot but he's thinkng of coming all the way north to mae sai.

chris
