alex_aka_P
"No matter the purpose, the group has every right to organize the rally" How abt the SoE (State of Emergency), which directly PROHIBITS the crowds 5pax++?? That's not even funny. Allowing THIS BS under the "democracy" flag, this so-called "government" will lose MANYTHING. This is the road to hel_l, and INDEED will be a double-standard (as much as I hate to sound the "double standard" sentence). The law is tough, but the law. Dura lex - sed lex © IF here is the law of SoE - so just ENFORCE it and NOT allow this reddish BS. And if here is NOT - than everyone at their own, and (frankly speakin') the "government" is NOTHING but a funds-eater. scorecard
"It would be simply unproductive to recite noble causes while inflicting damage to society." This is either ridiculously simplistic or cynically disengenious. Simplistic I'd say. It doesn't help to speak in absolute truths like 'We want democracy', or 'the government has only the wellbeing of the people in mind'. There's also the possibility that the real intended meaning has been lost in poor translation.
jayjay0
What a ridiculous article - Thai Society Immune against red shirt rallies. And all the way through the article is suppositions and assumptions. Gutter journalism by a 'stringer' can do better than this! But then I guess as they are paid by the word it would account for the dreary length of this article. I theenk? senor it's not an Article; not a stringer report. read the bottom of OP (small print) it's a Letter to the Editor, then translated. not that professionals to much better IMHO (rambling, innocuous, dreamt in technicolor) ??? woner if the Thai writer said apathetic instead of immune??? Okay, that last one might not be true for the government, but we can add "violating basic human rights" instead... And then there is the third party, PAD, multicolored, blue or yellow based on whats color they chose that day, claiming to love the King, be Buddhist and fighting for "demo ...." Care to offer some examples of the government spewing out violende inciting lies and hatred? It's interesting that where various people have confirmed over and over again the relation between PTP, UDD and red-shirts, it's much less for Dem's and yellow shirts. K. Thaksin controls PTP, Noppadon is a lapdog, Jaruporn is PTP MP and UDD leader. As far as I know there's no such control between Dem's and yellow shirts. The PAD and yellow shirts are also mere bumbling beginners compared with UDD and red shirts. Not only did they forget to torch the airport before they left, they even helped cleanup So blame the current government for all this ? Here's just one example of "spew out violence-inciting lies and hatred" (get a Thai friend to translate if you don't understand Thai): Here is the description by the one who uploaded the video to YouTube Starts with a comment that Abhisit and Prem are intimate and ends by saying that Suthep's list of sensitive targets will be wiped off the face of Thailand if Redshirts are injured by government. And yes, that list includes Siriraj Hospital, among other things. Now, to the UDD supporters, it's your turn to show us something equivalently offensive from the current government.

It was shown on TV in Thailand and right across the World.. They looked like Government Troops and Police to me. Or were they acting on their own? The truth will never be disclosed as that would make the government accountable, and guilty of atrocities against their citizens.

The thing is, when you seize a public area in the middle of a capital city, and then take up weapons and start using them against an army that has repeatedly asked you to leave over the period of a number of weeks, the likelihood is that at some stage they will fight back and you will get hurt.

Wise words from the Liberator of the Poor, the Spokesman for Democracy, the Free Speech Stalwart. Yes, truly reflective of the Red Shirt Leaders and their so-called movement in that this lunatic was a Core Leader of the Reds and on stage daily for months spewing his filth.
