george
DNA evidence links politicians to bombings: Police Chief BANGKOK, Sept 30 – Police Chief Pol Gen Wichean Potephosree asserted Thursday that police have found DNA evidence linking some politicians to the series of bombings. Following a security meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban, Gen Wichean said that the police currently had DNA evidence to probe some politicians behind several bombings. However, the police chief declined to reveal their names as earlier being sought by opposition Puea Thai Party. As the bomb centre, which investigates the bombing incidents, still lacks of efficient and smooth coordination, Gen Wichean said he has re-organised the agency to work together with the emergency centre, headed by Gen Panupong Singhara na Ayutthaya, an adviser to the national police chief. The emergency centre gathers and compiles information related to serious incidents reported by the public in order to deal with critical and dangerous incidents. Gen Panupong said the centre will help the police work effectively as it coordinates with other local units as well as overseas agencies, particularly in Asia. Mr Suthep, as overseer of national security and director of the Centre for the Resolution of Emergency Situation (CRES), told the officers that the government is ready to support the agencies concerned if there is insufficient equipment, vehicles, Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) personnel as well as other related problems. Meanwhile, Maj-Gen Udomdet Sitabutr, soon to take command of the First Army Area, said he is confident that the police can handle the overall situation. Army units, however, stand ready to join forces with the police if requested. Over the past few weeks, a series of bombings took place in Bangkok where the Emergency Decree remains in place. The incidents include the bombing at the Office of the Attorney General on Ratchadapisek Road Monday night, and four others Sunday night, near the Nang Lerng Horse Racing Track (Royal Turf Club), and at Santirat Wittayalai School, a shopping mall parking lot, and the Ministry of public Health in Nonthaburi September 8. The latest bomb explosion occurred at a factory in Chon Buri province, Southeast of Bangkok, late Wednesday night. It damaged six vehicles but caused no injuries. Meanwhile, an M67 hand grenade was found near the Lao PDR embassy on Soi Sahakanpramoon Pracha-Utit Road in Bangkok Thursday. An Army bomb disposal unit successfully defused the bomb. Police believe that someone had abandoned it to avoid being inspected and arrested at a checkpoint. (MCOT online news) -- TNA 2010-09-

Why oh why do we find an above average amount of people in function in Thailand who suffer of the foot-in-mouth disease. The DNA evidence obviously point to ... nothing much really. At the most it shows it's probably from a group of people seen as Thai. You need to correlate with other DNA in order to say more. The other DNA needs to be uniquely identified to be of use. I guess the statement of Police Chief Pol. Gen. Wichean only means it wasn't me

IAMSOBAD
Please dont let anyone else in Thailand ever make a statement. animatic
They never said it was found on the bombs. If certain politicians were at a bomb making site or meeting and trace of matching bomb residue was on a glass with their saliva, and their DNA was on record, this is possible as one scenario. Another is they are beating the bushes and seeing who is guilty, stupid and jumps up to run. Who says politicians are that bright? Briggsy
This is a very surprising assertion indeed, considering a) the Thai Police don't 'do' forensics. if they [pretend to] do, it's only after the senior cops and sycophantic journalists have stomped all over the crime scene and rearranged things for choicer photos. c) the Thai police don't have a DNA database of any kind, let alone for politicians. d) the Thai police may not have any reliable independent DNA identification centre. e) politicians do not do this kind of dirty work themselves, they have large numbers of goons on tap to do it for them. whybother
Questions: Did they say HUMAN DNA? Is it possible it is the "DNA" of the bomb? - Not that bombs have DNA (do they?), but they are often talked about that they have unique signatures, which is, or could be, referred to as "DNA" by the police or even just by the journalists. Did they say that they have the politicians DNA? - Maybe they have the DNA of the politicians aide, or driver, or someone closely linked to the politician. Oh and we all know how difficult it is to have someones DNA conveniently appear at the scene of a crime So you figure that Thai politician's hospital tests and samples are any more protected from police confiscation than anyone elses? If they had access to any blood sample from any time, that is enough. Can't see a hospital lab standing up against the DSI investigators too long, in a major bombing investigation. Not saying it's happened, just that it is a plausible possibility, that refutes the blanket condemnations of the statement as it it were impossible. It is certainly possible. I have read several books on forensics, and subcontracted on one forensic issue for a court case, in a different field.
