Thighlander
I have a crush on a nice young lady I met from KK. I've only been through on the train. Are there any good/cheap hotels/guest houses that would be easy to get to from the bus station? Thanks everyone.
citizen33
This one is quite near the bus station and not too expensive. http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Review-g297926-d1016288-Reviews-Bussarakam_Hotel-Khon_Kaen.html There is a hotel website but it seems to be down today. The one that I think is the best bargain is a bit further away, just on the other side of Highway 2, a little to the north of Central shopping plaza. It is excellent for the money, and the centre is just about walkable. http://www.khonkaenorchid.com/index.php
ccarbaugh
I stopped in Kohn Kaen about 2 months ago and stayed at the "Kohn Kaen Inn." It's only about 2 blocks from the bus station and it was delightful for only about 500 Baht- with breakfast! Good Luck
cardholder
I have stayed at the Charoen Thani before. It should create an acceptable impression on the young lady. (Great kwitio stand just outside)

halljimbo
Try this place. http://www.tonwaresort.com/eng/main.html I have been visiting Khon Kaen for 22 years and stayed everywhere (Charoen sucks!). I never stay anywhere else but here now. Completely charming and comfortable, double room with extra kids bed cost me 850 baht last week (Oct 1st). Just behind Tesco its on Google (in Thai). Enjoy! jazzbo
Another 'good' hotel close to the AirCon bus terminal (there are two in KK) is the Roma Hotel ... many of the other suggestions will require some form of transport or tuktuk... the flip side of your request is that you do not want your KK crushee to know just how cheap you can be ... http://www.hotelscom...l_Khon_Kaen.htm Edited October 11, 2010 by jazzbo

Always see a couple of farangs working down there, they helped me out big time on my first visit to Khon Kaen. They will pick you up from train station for free, it may be on a motorbike but hel_l who cares

Of course, she is simply looking for a man with a good heart. That orchid looks tempting for 590, but I've been paying 230 THB in Chiang Mai with fan/private bath/hotshower. 330 for a/c, which is almost unnecessary this time of year. Always seems to be best value in Chiang Mai. I've encountered the same thing in Chiang Rai. Thanks for the advice to everyone.

jazzbo
Of course, she is simply looking for a man with a good heart. Well, I guess if she wants one of them she definitely needs to import one from Chiang Mai.
