Correct. We are not renewing the advertising contract with The Nation.

The more important question is WHY?

It appears to be a profitable proposition for both.

George, care to explain?

Giving just a yes or no answer just does not seem to be adequate to satisfy the curiosity of the members.

But as always, as a proprietor, you do have your rights to remain silence.

And in silence tells everyone that it is none of your biz, which is also understandable as well. Cheers, my friend.

Does that mean that members may quote from other Thai newspapers, like The Bangkok Post, again ?

Or Is there still an -almost- exclusivity for The Nation ? And, if so, why ?

It's that time of the year when we decide which partners we will work with for the next budget year. I can't really comment on which partners we will buy/barter content from as we haven't decided who to go with yet. So no changes for the time being.

Yeah, notice the Nation logo has disappeared from the main Thaivisa logo at the top of the site also.

Yes, we wanted to brand Thaivisa as more independent, and that is what is happening now.

For what it is worth I think seeming to be and being independent can only benefit all.

Sawasdee Khrup, Khun George,

Whatever business factors, and personal choices, prevail in your decision, best of luck, and long life to you and TV !

If you are "independent," our hope is that you will clarify the issue of "copyright:" as brought up with you before via PM.

We'd be happy to post some original material (fiction, longer essays, but related to, or set in Chiang Mai, and in other parts of Thailand) on the Chiang Mai forum, which might be perhaps of wider interest (we hope at least entertaining) ...

... if you have a reasonable policy, as followed by so many other websites for writing (such as RedRoom), that publishing material on your forums can have copyright claimed in accordance with international standards, and you accept, by publishing on TV, a virtual "one-time only" grant of usage, that does not include the right to reprint, excerpt, or otherwise make any use, commercial or otherwise, except for the standard practice of permission to use small quotes.

If you are interested in having a moderated writers' forum, please PM us.

i wouldn't want to do business with someone who didn't have the discretion to pitch privately.

I fear we will never see the days back where thaivisa was an excellent aggregation of news sources rather than bound to a single provider, though one can only hope.

good luck.

I just noticed today, when a TV topic came up in a Google search, that the "The Nation" section of the TV logo has vanished and found the 'Forum' link on www.nationmultimedia.com is dead.

So I can resume posting openly on TV without being 'associated with a particular news organization.

You may or may not consider this good news... smile.gif

Cheers,

K.

More independent of whom? The advertisers earning revenue for you against whom no poster may comment adversely even if such criticism is warranted lest you lose your profits for example?

They aren't part of the Thaivisa brand though. What George is saying that he wants the brand to appear more independent even if the website itself isn't.
