Hey all,

Anyone got recommendation about buying cellphones in BKK versus U.S.? I have not idea about prices since I haven't had a cellphone for a few years now.

Also, I've been reading that I should get a tri-band GSM phone is I want to use it in U.S. and the Thailand. Is that correct?

Cell phone sevice gives you a phone in U.S.

If you are moving back to the US from Thailand you will find that you get a phone free when you sign up for service here- usually a year or two commitment though. Its mostly CDMA over here so I wouldn't get a GSM from Thailand as it is probably not compatible. Just go to Verizon and Cingular when you get here to compare phones and plans and then signup. You will walk away with a free phone.

Most cell phones are locked in the USA. As of a year ago, if Verison or Sprint sells a cell phone in USA, you will normally need the unlock code to use it here in Thailand.

If you get a cell phone here, make sure it is unlocked. I think phones are more upto date here than usa.
