stick to # 2 highway until you come to turn off for #24 to Nangrong/Buriram.

@24 is the Ringroad for Korat, pass true NangRong ,turn left onto #219...straight into Buriram.Traveltime from BKK about 5 hrs or less.

Have a safe trip.

Thairath reported today that in Buriram, 400,000 rai of farmland has flooded in 19 districts after the Mun river overflowed. Particularly affected were the Phutaisong, Sateuk, Khumeuang and Khaendong districts which are directly adjacent to the river. Lamplaimat and Nang Rong were also badly affected.

Did you post this on another forum? If so i answered it there. Nakhon nayok -Kabin buri - Sa Kaeo-Wattana Nakhon,( turn left at the traffic lights)-Pa Kham -Nang Rong- Amphur muang Buriram, or wherever you are staying. This is much more pleasant way to go . More to see and much less traffic

Which is more or less the route we always take from Bang Phli to Phrakhon Chi but I suppose it might depend which part of BKK you're traveling from.

No,not really, I used to go to C. Buriram, A. Ban Kruat, from Bang Phlat, Thonburi.Taking the ring road to Vipawadi Rangsit, then take the Nakhon Nayok road. Anywhere in Bkk., you have to take V.R. road. By the way, the flooding is well North of Amphur Muang Buriram. You can see the flood areas in a map in the Bangkok Post, today.

I also agree that this a much more attractive route and after travelling the 24 West to East on Tuesday I will not hurry back. It is in an appalling condition along the Chok Chai to Nang Rong stretch.

The preferred route does have some issues i.e quite a bit of wear on "Soi Minibus" (the 359 road, nicknamed soi minibus because of all the buses going to the casino)

I would say that the number and depth of the holes that have appeared make it dangerous for driving.

This is particularly so when you are in the so-called 'fast lane' and a bus/truck driver swerves to his right to avoid one of the afore-mentioned holes. It really is in a shocking state of disrepair.

Happened to me countless times yesterday returning from Korat, plus you have to use the left lane for overtaking the odd slow moving pick-up that doesn't want to drive on that bit.

I drove back from Korat yesterday 5th (one day after Thaddeus) and can advise that most of the holes have now been patched, Unfortunately it is very bumpy, and many drivers stick in the outside lane and refuse to budge when others want to overtake.

Yes Nick, and most people would be well advised if they know that there is very little difference between a hole an a badly patched up hole, they both damage your suspension, cause you to lose control momentarily, and drive you freakin' insane when you get half a dozen in about a hundred meters..... it effectively means that from Chok Chai to Nang Rong, it's a two lane highway again as nobody want to drive on the wonky bits.
