hey, quick questions:a) how long time does it take from the airport to southern bus terminal ? B) how far is Nana from southern bus terminal ?Im arriving in the airport and we both need to go to the southern bus terminal to get a bus to hua hin, we want to meet up.Alternatives is the he comes to the airport and picks me up and we go together from the airport to the SBT, or that i just go to SBT and he will go there by taxi.None of us know whats the smartest to do here so hope somebody could assist :)thanks,

The Southern bus terminal for the past 3 years is miles away...I did it recently and depending on traffic can take an hour from the airport and about 350 Baht...from Nana 30 minutes. Your bus fare to Hua Hin will be 160 each so thats 700 baht...if money isnt that tight, meet at the airport and get a taxi direct to Hua Hin, with haggling its possible 2,000 baht...

The SBT is so far west of the city (just near the Western Ring road) that it is almost in another province! You can spend half that time getting there from the centre of town that you would travelling to Hua Hin.

There has been a few threads in the Airport Forum on this issue, see previous thread (see post #4, part (3); http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/392052-suvarnabhumi-airport-to-hua-lamphong-station/page__pid__3830453#entry3830453

I suggest you both consider taking the Airport Link to Phayathai (CityLine), the BTS to Victory Monument where you can take a new mini-van to Hua Hin which terminates at the centre of town near Phetkasem rd (companies have different locations). Vans leave every 20-30 mins and there are a couple of companies to choose from. Cost is 160-180 baht for the 2.5 hr trip.

The Airport Link/BTS/Van option could save you a couple of hours compared to going to the SBT especially given that the buses are slower. Also, if you take the govt bus their new terminal is some 4km south of the centre of Hua Hin.

Even if you have large bags, I suggest the van is a more time efficient & convenient option.

Yes, this is what I did last time. Much quicker way to get to Hua Hin as you are on the super highway in no time at all.

Thanks alot guys.

The minivan sounds like the best option. how much would a taxi from the airport cost to the victory monument from the airport & nana ? and is it easy to find the minivans when you first arrive at the victory monument (never been there).

Thanks alot for your assistance and sorry if i posted it in the wrong forum :(

Check the attachment.

It has all information you need to take minivans from Victory Monument.

Taxi cost from airport: approx 300 Baht incl. tolls

Go to the departure level after arrival and take a taxi from there. (right hand side after stepping out of the terminal. cross the 1st road)

Saves you the 50 Baht airport taxi fee and the cabbies are happy to get a fare back to town.

BTW: Victory Monument - Thai: อนุสาวรีย์ชัยสมรภูมิ, Anusawari Chai Samoraphum

Have a save trp

B) Wow, Things have certainly changed, A tenet of Buddhism is that things are always changing. I left Thailand , living in Hua Hin in 2007. I was back in 2009 but got a ride from friends in BKK to Hua Hin and we took the minivan back to Victory Monument.

Someone mentioned that the new Hua Hin Terminal is 4 KM S. from centrum. We used to liver just before the flyover at the turnoff for Khao Takiab. Where is this new Terminal? The old one was one block from night market. one was just N. and the other Just S. along the railroad.

And in BKK i would take the 115 Bus to new southern Bus terminal" Pin Klao. Has this terminal changed?\\Thanks in advance

We are planning a trip in the summer of 2011 to BKK/Hua Hin.

It is only the new Terminal for the Transport Company (govt) buses but yes it is now 4km south of where they used to stop at the night market on Phetkasem road. There was a need for a proper small terminal but it should have been built near the station. Good if you are staying somewhere down that way, not so good if you have to head back into town (I have heard that drivers will not allow pax off in the centre of town).

Another reason why the mini-vans are better as they all terminate near the centre. One company at the old bus stop near the market.

I believe that new small terminal, on the main road but a few km south of the railway-station, may also used by Sombat-Tour for their 2-3 daily departures direct to Chiang Mai ? It certainly sounds like the same one.
