Help Needed

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

My brother is looking to move to Thailand on a more permanent basis and loves the HH area.

He has asked me to help him sort out a place to live before he comes (end of feb) so any ideas where I can find or start looking for a property with the following attributes?

1-3 year contract

2 or 3 bedrooms

House doesn't need to be ultra modern or packed full of plasma screen tvs. Something simple will do. What is important is land, He would like a large walled in garden. The bigger the better.

Obviously I dont think this can be found inside a 'moo baan' so a single house is fine, it also doesn't matter if he is a bit further out in the sticks.

He is an artist / play-writer so a nice peaceful expanse of private land with a comfortable house will be perfect.

So any ideas on areas / soi numbers / places I can head to? Or know of a place like this for rent? (Also what do you think he would be looking at rent wise)

I will only get to spend 3 days in HH this month so a place to start will be much appreciated.

Many thanks,

Wishing you all a safe and happy 2011

How big is a "big expanse of land"? I have a pretty decent yard, lots of trees, nice grass... and I live inside a complex. I think your major problem is going to be this: you only have three days and you want grass. That means most (all?) of the houses in town are out. You'll have to drive a bit out (think all the way down or all the way up, like soi 8 or soi 100). You might be able to find a house like that if you drive around for a few hours, or you might discover that the empty houses you come accross don't have a FOR RENT sign outside (mine didn't; somebody put me in touch with the complex manager).

My main requirement when I was looking for a house was the same as yours: a big garden with a high wall (because I have a dog who can jump ridiculously high and I wanted to make sure he couldn't get out). Meeting that one requirement was extremely difficult. Yard ok, but no wall. Or big space around the house, but all cement. etc etc. Also, I discover that big yard = expensive rent in Hua Hin, so keep that in mind.

Since you don't have a lot of time and you need something very specific, why don't you try a realtor? I know many people here don't like them, but the first two houses I rented in Hua Hin were through realtors and I never had any problems. You simply tell them the amount you can spend (and make sure they understand it's a firm number) and they'll find you something for that price.

smor prong? It's not that far out (10mins to beach on motorbike?) I live around the Tippawan's areas, it's a Moo Baan but plenty around that aren't.

Hi Sam, thanks for replying.

I haven't been to HH before and a search on google couldn't direct me to the areas you have mentioned.

Is there a soi number or name where I will find the 'Tippawans' area?

Thanks

Thanks, I'll check it out.

Any ideas on size/cost of the places there?

Not tippawan but the area is Smor Prong, hard to explain where and the maps don't have it, west from the coast, anyone will know really if you ask when you get here.

Surely in Hua Hin everything is west from the coast
