45-55 years old, predominantly UK,Euro .....The post war boomers,

Now what do you all buy? What will you be buying in the future, apart from Vinyl ,and body part replacements.

and prodigous amounts of chillie.

Well anyway just another late forties party animal having a few flashbacks on some of those bands.

Pink Floyd for me No1 but these in no particular order

Supertramp.

ZEP

QUEEN

BTO

Split ENZ (im a Kiwi)

Human League

Van Morrison

Fleetwood Mac

Frankie goes to Hollywood.

Blondie (my late teen Idol)

ZZTOP

Petshop Boys (Well it was the birth of clubbing as we now know it)

Dragon (Are you old enough)

Hello Sailor

Roxy music

Phil Collins

Tried to think of some recentones, but for some reason the impact is less and cant remember the names.

Hendrix would make it into band genre as he was with The Experience and The Band of Gypsies.

Without the likes of  Mitch Mitchell, Buddy Miles, Noel Redding et al , I doubt those tracks would have swung quite so well. As a lead guitarist myself  I never underestimate the influence of a great Rythym section.

Next ?

I don't see the point of repeating well known names so here's a few who deserve a mention:

Rory Gallagher, unbeatable rock\blues, catch his DVDs of 'The Old Grey Whistle Test', German and Irish tours.

Man, a great band from Wales, the drummer, Terry Williams joined Dire Straits

Tim Buckley's voice was out of this world, listen to 'Sweet Surrender', died so young from heroin, the silly fool, as I believe did his son.

Nick Drake- unique album,'Bryter Later',middle class sensitivity at its best, his guitar tunings, completely his own, are a nightmare to follow!

King Crimsom, great early albums.

Spirit- great live, Randy California as a latterday Hendrix

George Thorogood and The Destroyers, great foot tapping bar blues.

Can from Germany in the mid70s, 'Future Days'was good for late nights in bedsits.

Steve Hillage

Kevin Coyne-His 'Marjory Razorblade' is a classic, as was 'The Eastbourne Ladies', there's not many fast rock and roll songs about grannies sitting in deckchairs!

It started about an hour ago, I was listening to The Beatles, the heavy end bit to "I want you", in a proper beatles mood and as soon as the track ends "Thank god, I got a headache now". I bite my lip after muttering something about it being John Lennon and The Beatles and settle in for "Here comes the sun", what happens, flumps down next to me on the bed and starts talking about some magazine restaurant thing.

I gave up on Abbey Road, had a shower and that and come back and just started the whole album again, her phone rings, and its yap yap yap down the phone "err" this and"err" that with the occaisonal "jing lor?" thrown in. :D

No worries I though, as long as the phone goes off before "Oh Darling" comes on, I'm lucky it does. Then halfway through the song she starts telling me the gossip from her friends.

I wanna scream "shut up! I'm trying to listen to Abbey Road over here!" but end up settling for "really, what happened next?" whilst trying to follow the parts where I am now supposed to say "err" this and "err" that with the occaisional "jing lor?" thrown in. :D

I turned off Abbey Road for the second time and decided to let her finish talking whilst I started this post. She's since finished her talking, farted loudly and it now back on the phone again saying "err" this and "err" that with the occaisional "jing lor?" thrown in. :D

No real point to this post, just wanted to say I can't think about my fave bands for the moment as my creatvity is being styfled by my very own Yoko Ono. :D

just a fukcin rant really. :o

Pretty much dude. To the dude who didn't know who Big Brother & the Holding Company was; it was Janis Joplin's band, who did not last long due to her keeling over. It was some very powerful material to be sure;

Take another little piece of my heart now baby

you know you got it if it makes you feel good

Ok, rant over, headphones on now, shes still on the phone though. :o

Whoever didn't put The Beatles in their top 20 lists should be ashamed of yourselves by the way, them and the Rolling Stones, its undisputed isn't it?

And Zep.

Since my Yoko came into my life I have left the 2 bands I was in ( part time) and if you feel hard done by not being able to listen to the music you love , multiply that by 100 to get to the withdrawal pains I get when I see local bands doing what I used to... :D

But I am happier now than I was then ( apparently...)

A few more bands I didn't fit in to my top 20.

Free - Kossof was THE best blues guitarist outside of the US , they were so much more than that "Alright Now" single.

Stone Temple Pilots - Top Grunge

Thin Lizzy

:D

Your the first TV poster that I am aware of who knew of Kevin Coyne (R.I.P.). Brilliant stuff, the best of it penned from his asylum (not political) days.

There was never anyone remotely like him and his music and I doubt there will be in the future.

I've followd the lead of the o.p. by including "solo" artistes who usually worked in a group setting. These, over the years, have consistantly pleasured me aurally. :o

The Blue Nile. Perfect end of the day music.

Jeff Buckley. "Grace" is just a masterpiece.

Nick Cave. Rich voice,rich lyrics.

Crowded House. Love the harmonies.

Sheryl Crow. She rocks!

The Hamsters. Raw 'n' dirty live trio.

The Human League. More than quality pop.

Joe Jackson. Ditto.

Led Zeppelin. Of course.

Joni Mitchell. Often imitated, rarely bettered.

Ian McNabb. Music to make the spirit soar.

Bonnie Raitt. Emotive voice and slide guitar.

Squeeze.Great storytellers.

Steely Dan. Especially the early years.

The Temptations. Exquisite soul.

Thin Lizzy. Now where did I leave my air guitar....?

Was not Was. For those funky moments in life.

Yes. Even though I've never understood what they were on about.

Frank Zappa. A genius (apart from a quality v. quantity issue).

Warren Zevon. A slightly skewed view of the world.
