feel free to leave any good feedback or reply.

please dont leave bad dumb remarks to peoples feedback also.

I travelled a bit in my life . Always to places that werenot to popular at the time because they were usually the cheapest. When travelling I tried to get to know the culture. I came to Thailand about 20 years ago. It was cheap then. I liked it. I had always thought I would retire in a South American country. But Thailands exotic oriental flavour won me over. I am a single man and wish to live my remaining years some where I can enjoy life. I also like the reality we are only visitors here cannot own anything or take roots. That lets me feel comfortable about living with less material things because I never know when I may just leave for another asian country or be forced home for some foreseen reason.

I met my girl in a brothel overseas and made her an offer she couldn’t

refuse :)

She happened to be Thai so she asked me next time when I’m on leave why not come visit her in Thailand.

One thing led to another and now (16 years later) we’re still happy getting along with each other.

It is warm. It is inexpensive if you don't have expensive tastes. The food is reasonable if you don't mind Thai food. There is every conceivable life style depending on your tastes. It has a "fairly" stable government if you don't let the strange politics bother you. You can just disappear if that is your choice. There are good hospitals at reasonable prices. Excellent dentistry is available much cheaper than either North America or Europe. The women are beautiful and friendly if you keep your wits about you.

However, there are many drawbacks if you DON'T keep your wits about you. You can't own land, and if you sign everthing over to a Thai then you won't get much support getting any of it back in a breakup between marriage partners or business dealings. The traffic is crazy and dangerous if you are not careful 100% of the time. Cost of imported items is much higher than most other countries.

As for myself I don't live here full time, and I split my year between Canada and Thailand. I get the best of both worlds. Not everyone can do that.

1) Freedom from oppression by women

2) Freedom from oppression by the state

3) Nice climate

howzat!

I will take your 3 and raise you.

No income tax, no western PC BS, no Euro land socialist policies bleeding me, not paying to support illegal wars or illegal immigrants.

I came for the women and stayed for the laid back lifestyle.

Agreed.

I would also add the cost of living - that has enabled me to spend 9 months of the year here.

Those 3 things are what got me! Along with NO SNOW!!!

P.S. One post deleted that made no sense at all...

#7 I get the best of both worlds... Maybe, but I would think the real best would include deep sea fishing off the coast of Florida during the winter... and a shorter connubial visit to CNX.

Somewhat true, but I'm not sure how the oil spill last year will affect the fishing off Florida. I DO know I would prefer to ration out what I have in Thailand with what I have in Canada. It would be nicer to have a little balance during the year, but I'm not in the income bracket where I can fly back and forth monthly. So, I'm quite happy the way it is now. I've got my family and fresh and saltwater fishing in BC, and my laid back life in Thailand when the weather is ideal. It's actually less expensive for me to live in Thailand in the winter than turn on my furnace to stay comfortable in Canada. My food bill is similar, but in Canada I have to do my own cooking, whereas I eat in Thai cafes in Thailand.

And the list goes on & on & on. Hate the roads and traffic though.

No problem IF -- it was just an observation from someone who spent 20+ years in rural northern Florida (before many of the back-roads were widened) staring at the back of Canadian-Snowbird Winnebagos and Airstreams with Canada license plates ... don't think that the oil spill affected the southern part of the Gulf and certainly not the Atlantic.

I spend half my time in Thailand and the other half in tropical north eastern Australia. My wife and I own a comfortable home in LOS and we work here in Australia. Cant afford to live there full time at the moment but very happy with the present situation. Easy lifestyle and affordability is what attracted me to Thailand also the country is not over governed as it is in the west... :D

I second all of the above and plus the "Live and let live attitude".
