wileycoyote
We have been asked to invite some friends on a Restauarnt boat doen the Chao Phya River. To be honest I don't know Bangkok that well,I know that we are meeting them at their hotel in Silom, but because we are " Notherners" ,we would be grateful for any advice, * value *best location to pickup return *not too late as there are children involved Thank You
Nisa
I can't help you with comparing the different ones but I went on http://www.thaicruise.com/home_en.php last year on Valentines Day and had a nice time. I know there is another thread here a few months old where somebody asked about the cruises and a few people chimed in with their experiences.. You can find it here: http://www.thaivisa...._1#entry4214856 Edit: If you want to do a Rice Barge dinner cruise I hear this one is good ... http://www.loynava.com/ Edited March 21, 2011 by Nisa

Maybe little more than some others but it is not a buffet service so no fighting to get to the food.

The one drawback I had on the cruise was getting to the food at the buffet table. There are still a number of Thais who don't understand or care about the concept of a queue and it really took away from the experience during this time to feel a need to be defensive and aggressive in terms of getting food on my plate. roamer
For me it would be the Yok Yor. Now although I have eaten in the restaurant recently its been a while since I have done the cruise and then the food was great, no more than I would expect as they have always kept the standards up over over the nearly 20 years that I have been eating at their restaurants. Check out the website, consistently over the years its restaurants and cruises have always got good reviews here, one thing for sure it probably works out as one of the cheapest tours with traditional Thai style boats, rather than the over the top stretched limo type boats still cruising down the river in July with Father Christmas and reindeer flashing crazily. Ps. This is also less of a tourist "group" style operation so I think you tend to avoid many of the problems some of the other outfits encounter. You mentioned pickup/return, they will send a smaller tender to pick you up from the hotel boat pier at Saphan Taksin Skytrain station if you ask. roiethome
The Monora dinner cruise on the converted rice barge is the best IMHO. I have used it many times for business and personal dinners, and find the service and atmosphere very good. Well worth paying a few baht more and having a relaxed dinner server to your table, than the pushing and shoving on some of the other cruise ships,

I have taken the day cruise and the Ayuthaya cruise several times. Wonderful slow cruise on the river. Very relaxing and makes for a very pleasant change from the tour buses/boats. Highly recommended.. http://www.manohracruises.com/ (Warning... Flash site)
kunash
http://www.manohracruises.com/ this looks very nice but the menu seems a bit hot and spicey - and it seems a set menu. would love to go on this dinner cruise, but maybe my ''western'' palat wont like it. i do like thai food, but not hot and spicey
