BTS Claims to Have Fixed Glitches

The BTS Skytrain has promised that the Silom rapid train system will operate much smoother from now on after passengers have complained about its frequent breakdowns.

Following a series of technical glitches related to the testing of the extension, BTS Director and Chief Operating Officer Suraphong Laoha-unya has vowed to improve the operation of the Silom route.

According to Surapong, the problem stemmed from the introduction of a new signal system, as the BTS Skytrain has changed its signal system from Siemens to Bombardier.

The technical glitch occurred during the test of a signal system to ensure a smooth connection between the Sukhumvit Line (Mo Chit-On Nut) and the new extended line.

Surapong went on to say that the rail system greatly prioritizes safety, so all trains must be suspended when problems emerge.

The signal systems of the Sukhumvit and Silom lines are linked, so any problems with the Sukhumvit line will affect the Silom services.

He added that the BTS is testing a new signal system for the extended line at night, until they can ensure that the operation works properly.

The new signal will be used in the daytime on all lines once it has proven to be effective.

He believes fewer problems will take place from now on.

As for the extension from Bearing to Samut Prakan, scheduled to open August 12, the BTS said it is also now testing the system at night, before beginning daytime testing in late June.

Commuters will be offered free rides on the extension until January 1, 2012.

The exact fare for the extension has not been finalized by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration.

Good , bad, or better I think the BTS is far superior than the rail system we have here in Melbourne.

Glitches fixed?

Well, at least no more disruptions of service.

However, the ride on the new China made trains on the Silom line is far from smooth.

Screeching and jumpy breaking, water dripping from the ceiling, doors constantly out of order, etc etc.

Today there was a strong vibration coming from the undercarriage during the entire ride from Siam to Surasak.

Even after more than 11 years of service, the old Siemens trains on the Sukhumvit line run much more smooth.
