So happy to hear your wife is OK. I'll let the gal coming here know about Dr. Jalong at Lanna. She really wanted a female doctor but needs are needs and she would like to see somebody while here.

Thanks Again!!

Rather than a stab in the dark, how about setting up an appointment with the excellent Dr Morgan (GP) on Hang Dong Road, timed for when your visitor arrives. She could go and have a chat with her, discuss her needs/wants and I'm sure Dr. Morgan would send her to whoever she feels is the best Ob/Gyny.

Just an option.

I think this is a good idea. I suspect I'm a bit older than the OP's "visitor". Over the years, I've had both male and female ob/gyn doctors and I really can't tell much difference. Actually, the men may be a bit more symphathic while the women have been more business-like, probably because that's what was needed to get into and thru medical school for a female.

My most interesting ob/gyn was Dr. Ron Paul, the perennial American presidential candidate. This was back in the 1970s when he was a congressional representive or state senator or something in Texas. I just needed a routine annual exam and called his medical office, figuring I'd be given to an associate. But no, they said Dr. Paul was going to be in town next week and would be able to see "routine" cases. He was rather brusque and in a hurry. They had me "in the position" before I ever met him. (Most ob/gyns with a new patient take the time to introduce themselves and ask about your situation before the nurses set you up for an exam.) Anyway, early in the exam, he tried to make small talk. "What does your husband do?" "Oh he works for (a major chemical company)." "Oh he's an engineer" "How nice for you". Then he promptly discovered a condition that required further, in-office treatment, once he determined I undoubtably had health insurance coverage from that major chemical company.

Aside from that slime-ball, all of the other male ob/gyns I've known have been great.

  • 1 month later...

Wife needed to see an OB/GYN a month ago and we went to Ram and got an unsatisfactory [and painful]exam/DX andRX from one of the older men Drs [no names mentioned]. I then went in to consult with Dr Morgan for a recomendation and her recomendation was:

OB/GYN (Female Reproductive)

Dr Warachon,

Sripat Hospital

053 5394 6909/10 [coppied from the new pinned topic at the top of TV/CMforum.]

Our impression of her was that not only was her exam more complete with more modern equipment, but her approach was a lot more conservative and the best part was the cost was soo much less.

Have just seen this thread, and have personal experience with the Dr. at Lanna as well as Dr. Cathareeya at Ram, both almost 6 years ago now. Rather liked the man, had lots of issues with the lady. So as PP stated, it's more about the doctor than what gender they are. I saw both of them for prenatal care during my first pregnancy. The Dr. at Lanna (I'm not sure of his name, but he was very popular and highly recommended if you wanted a natural birth) was a bit distracted during my first couple visits and we had to wait quite a while, both of which are reasons why we tried Dr. Cathareeya at Ram. Well, Dr. Cathareya was fine with all of my requests and birth plan and such, until... a few days before my due date. Then she decided that she didn't quite agree with some things that were important to me (TMI alert-- I didn't want an enema, wanted to delay clamping of the cord, wanted to be able to walk around and labor in any position, no routine episiotomy, etc). She informed me that she was happy to follow my birth plan as much as she could, but would ultimately do things she did normally even if they weren't what we wanted. So she crossed things out on the plan and wrote in that an enema was fine-- just days before I had my son. I felt rather betrayed and overwhelmed with it all.

I know of other people who have had good experiences with her, and I don't know the specifics of the OP's friend, but if you're going for a natural childbirth (where you can walk around and they aren't giving you a routine- and unnecessary- episotomy even though you're screaming that you don't want one), then Dr. Cathareeya is not your OB.

In the event that the OP is confused by all this they may wish to refer to this link, created in no small part with substantial aid from the previous poster, who is responding well to therapy and recovery is in sight:

Jaydee, what do you mean by "more conservative approach"?

Not being pregnant, but I'm having painful discomforts and need a thorough exam this week. I really don't care about the price, just want the best. Preferably a lady gyna, but I can reprogram myself if it is a male doc.

Curious reminescing! Does this mean you don't now care for his politics? :o
