mallmagician Posted November 5, 2011 Share Posted November 5, 2011 I have an urge to eat a nice Sunday dinner tomorrow, so I was wondering where does a good one now in chiang Mai? Years back I enjoyed the queen Vic, as the carvery was good value. Looking for somewhere with a choice of roast meats, Yorkshire puds, and preferably a free flow of bread sauce. Yum! Any ideas? For sure mint sauce with the lamb, apple sauce with the pork and horseradish with the beef. Great roast potatoes, nice veggies, Yorkshire puddings and lashings of gravy. If you do go - go hungry. So now I live in Thailand, I see no reason to live on purely Thai food. Nice as it may be.... Was just yesterday, so didn't have Sunday roast, but will go next weekend. nicksal37 Posted November 7, 2011 Share Posted November 7, 2011 I too Dave2 had a roast nearly every Sunday and there is nothing wrong with that.I go to Archers for my roast beef dinner.Go past UK Irish,on the right,and at the traffic lights turn left towards Walking Street and it is 50 metres on your right.Only roast beef, but loads of it and it is tender.Free horseradish too.Certainly worth a try. Back in San Francisco, I vacillated between Chinese, Mexican, Italian, Japanese and a variety of other cuisines - including Thai - and I prefer to do the same thing here. We have Roast Pork with homemade apple sauce, Roast Chicken with Chestnut stuffing, Roast Beef or Roast Lamb. If you are very hungry you could try our Sunday Sampler, offering Roast Pork, Roast Chicken and Roast Beef, or our Super Sampler with Pork, Beef, Chicken and Lamb. There's also a Vegetarian nut roast, although it sounds like that wouldn't interest you! All our roasts are served with Roast Potatoes, Yorkshire Puddings, Veg and Gravy. Extra Roast potatoes and Yorkshire Puddings are available for a small fee. Prices start from 195 Baht (176 Baht if you are a local resident which I believe you are, and sign up for our Gold Card) If you decide to join us in perference to the other excellent establishments mentioned above, and let me know when you are definite, I'll make up some bread sauce for you! Back home most guys who had a pub Sunday Carvery would have a few pints with it as well, but in here many customers are content to have a bottle of water or a coke with it, so the food has to be commercially priced. To put on a good quality carvery you'd need to charge 500-600 baht and I don't think enough expats in Chiang Mai would be prepared to pay that. Also anyone who knows about the history of the Queen Vic, will understand that the price charged did not necessarily reflect commercial reality. Our Super Sampler consists of Pork, Lamb, Chicken and Beef together with 4 Yorkshire puddings, Roast Potatoes, Onion mash, Veg and Gravy, It generally fills up even the hungriest mouths!
