Chumpon Police "Dog Squad"

Recommended Posts

A real show of force at the Chumpon Lomprayah ferry pier this morning; glittering little generals accompanied their elite "dog squad" to the end of the pier to sniff out all the bad tourists carrying who-knows-what...

What an hilarious sight to behold; two black Labs and an Alsatian cowering behind the legs of their "handlers" while every person on the pier and those on the boat had a good laugh smile.gifsmile.gifsmile.gif

Try as they may, they could not persuade the "sniffer" dogs to take a whiff of anything... Tails firmly between their legs they refused to budge an inch. Classic!

Little men with big egos making fools of themselves - what a great start to the day!

Ironical - it is not the tourists who bring anything to the islands in the first place...

yes dogs have a very high sent of smell.

now grab a dirty hippy and times the smell of that hippy by 50 and you have one sick puppy .)

" yes tourists never bring anything to the islands." tourosit are complelty drug free people and sit round beachs having dinner parties and eating pack lunch.

the thought of bringing anything bad to samui is just stupid. i mean what sort of a hippy would take drugs get off their face and jump through a ring of fire.

never herd of a hippie not taking drugs. crazy police crazy. )))

anyway if these people had real gutts there would fight the bill jump in the ring and challenge them legally.

or challenge them to a dual though you might have to explain the rules first.

... is slightly different to what I said, so no need for ""...

Do you really believe the drugs consumed by tourists are brought here by tourists? laugh.png

Meth and Ice raids are happening all the time on the islands; I have only heard of one which involved a farang, supply of weed is almost certainly controlled by local bibs...

Perhaps more exotic substances arrive on (or in) "tourists" but not likely in a backpack from Chumpon. These are long term stayers or frequent visitors and my guess would be preferably via USM.

Of course that's not the way it works. Because a dog has a much more sophisticated olfactory system does not mean it is overwhelmed by odors. A human brain is far more sophisticated than a mouse brain, but we are not overwhelmed by all that additional information (at least most of us...).

I would not be so quick to ridicule the dogs or their handlers. If these dogs were indeed "sniffer dogs," it could be that they were being introduced for the first time to crowds of people streaming off a boat and the exercise was to get them used to this. Or it could have been something else.

Or is could have been bring your dog to work day....

truth. it doesn't matter how much patchoulli those dirty stinky hippies wear, the dog is not going to have any difficulty separating it from the contraband. it's also pretty silly to assume that those same dirty stinky hippies are importing anything more than they could consume in one full moon party.

what r u on about nearly every day there is a drug bust at bangkok air port airports are one of the biggest arrival points from drugs.

So you are saying that locals fly out to africa and colubia so sell in their local areas.

yes there is some home grown and stuff coming from Loas and Burmer but there is alos a hell of allot coming through the international airport.

also forigners like to get on the bus with tourists rarther than fly to samui after savive the very dangerous part of the trip.

Sorry to reuin it for you all you druggies out there but i am just saying how it is.

I am just suprise that the police were there doing their job. normally traffic flows freely without much bother.

So basically someone is taking the police for doing their job.

like saying " gues what i sore a stupid shop salesman actually selling something today."

i do not really care about drug pushers or takers. if u deal or use and you get caught then you only have yourself blame. if you get away with it then good luck. Just keep some prison vouchers in your socks for a rainy day.

Hmm, seems you are on a mission to preach here BigC, you are hijacking what was a light hearted stab at the local brass and trying to turn it into an anti drug crusade. Nobody was claiming to support drugs, myself included but if you would like to infer something go right ahead - nobody takes your belligerent rants seriously anyway...

By flying into Thailand on Etihad then having the baggage checked straight through to Samui....bags turn up at the carousel at Samui same as usual....walk straight through....whistling.gif

The effectiveness of drug dogs is to be questioned anyway...a recent article from an Australian newspaper:

A RECORD 80 per cent of sniffer dog searches for drugs resulted in ''false positives'' this year, figures show.

The figures obtained from the state government in response to parliamentary questions on notice show 14,102 searches were conducted after a dog sat next to a person, indicating they might be carrying drugs. But, in 11,248 cases, no drugs were found.

Only 2854 searches - 20 per cent - in the first nine months of this year, resulted in drugs being found, the figures show"

Maybe the dogs were hiding from the cameras.

Or they were not used to seeing loads of forangs as I get a sinlar welcome to my misses village.

Or there was so much drugs on the boat that the dogs could not handle

Personally I reckon the dogs were in training exercise maybe that's why they went to chompon to start off.
