burnsie Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 Hi there, New to TV so please be gentle with me. Decided to move back to los after 5 years in the UK. Previously I lived and worked Koh Samui for 5 years before the move back to blighty. But my wife who's Thai and I have had enough of it over here and we're thinking of moving to the Rangsit area as we want to be closeish to her sister. We know the area flooded but we're of the thought its fairly close to both airports the expressway and 3 hours from the rest of the family in Wichinburi. If possible was after some advice from TV members on other areas in the vicinity to live or any nice moo baans in the area that are worth checking out. Many Thanks. FalangBaa Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 Why not just live in a place above the 3rd floor and invest about 2,000 baht in an inflatable rubber dinghy? Then you'll have nothing to worry about when the floods inevitably come to Rangsit again, be it next year, the year after, 5 years from now, or whenever.
burnsie Posted January 3, 2012 Author Posted January 3, 2012 Good point mate, but I'm not that clued up on Bangkok suburbs, so was just wondering if there was anywhere round there that didn't flood, any other ideas for living on the outskirts of Bangkok preferably nearish express way and all immenites. Ta.
RedNIvar Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 Ignoring the 50 year flood, Rangsit normally is a very flood prone area. I have seen it flood almost every year for the last 14 years and the traffic is not all that great. I would suggest somewhere around Lad Phrao area. Traffic here is not all that great either but it is not far from the train stations, and is easier to get into town. Plus it is not that far away from Rangsit. IMHO.
burnsie Posted January 4, 2012 Author Posted January 4, 2012 yep. going to have a look around Lad Phrao. When you say train stn do you mean overland or underground? Any idea what the approximate rental prices are for a 4 bed house on a moo baan? All the best. Posted with Thaivisa App http://apps.thaivisa.com

My suggestion would be somewhere closer to Don Muang airport (Si Kan for example) as it's some of the highest ground in Bangkok and even there was not as bad as many other areas.. Or even Muang Thong Thani area where there are a lot of new housing developments springing up as the flooding in Don Muang (Si Kan) was a fluke and it never happened in Muang Thong Thani and surrounding areas.. rgs2001uk Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 He is talking about the underground into the city. In my opinion there are better areas than Lat Prao, depends on what you are looking for. You dont say if you will be working and having to commute everyday. There are plenty of other areas to check out that are close to the expressway, less than an hour from Rang Sit , if you are talking about Wichinburi on the HW 21 just south on Petchabun, I know where I would rather be, but thats a personal choice. There are many moo baans in the sai mai, Lam Luk Ka area that will rent cheaper than in Bkk itself. The Ramkhamheng rd area near Min Buri up near soi 164, moo baan perfect Place has places from 25k per month and up, a 4 b/r may be a problem, most houses are your normal Thai moo baan style 2 storey 3 b/r variety, and what some call a 4th b/r is no bigger than a box/storage room.

Please see map attached, the dark blue is the MRT, the shades of Green is the BTS skytrain and the pink is the airport link.
burnsie Posted January 4, 2012 Author Posted January 4, 2012 Much obliged everyone!! I won't be doing a daily commute into town, but would be looking for a job once we've settled down, we would only be going in for shopping or a night out with mates. the need for a 4 bed place is'nt essential,as there's only the missus, i and our little girl, 3 bed would be fine and yes, it is the same Wichinburi about 100 km south of Petchabun, we did think of moving up there but your options are limited when it comes to schools, entertainment and people to socialise with. Cheers. Posted with Thaivisa App http://apps.thaivisa.com

Posted with Thaivisa App http://apps.thaivisa.com Most people would get a job first then decide on a place to live close to the workplace, still up to you, some of these commutes can be dreadful. Anyway, from the net, Rang Sit area, http://www.ddproperty.com/property/show/28085 The above was picked at random from the following, your mrs can translate for you, http://www.ddproperty.com/properties/search?search[place_type_id]=1&search[post_type_id]=2&search[province_code]=13&search[district_code]=1303&search[price_min]=&search[price_max]=&commit=%E0%B9%80%E0%B8%A3%E0%B8%B4%E0%B9%88%E0%B8%A1%E0%B8%84%E0%B9%89%E0%B8%99%E0%B8%AB%E0%B8%B2 Just noticed another in the same area, 10k per month rent, owner selling themself. http://www.ddproperty.com/property/show/158201 For the shopping, no need for town, plenty of malls to cater for your needs.
