Iranian border guards kill six Pakistani cattle traders

QUETTA, PAKISTAN (BNO NEWS) -- Iranian border guards killed six Pakistani cattle traders in the southeastern region of Iran on late Thursday evening, Pakistani officials confirmed on early Saturday. Several others were injured.

The incident happened east of the Iranian city of Chah Bahar when a group of about ten Pakistani civilians were traveling back to the border with Pakistan after they sold their cattle at an Iranian market. The traders were traveling on an informal trade route between the two countries.

According to Pakistani officials, the cattle traders were intercepted by Iranian border guards who then opened fire at their vehicle from several directions, killing six Pakistani civilians and injuring four others. The victims were taken to a local hospital in Chah Bahar where they are receiving medical treatment.

It was not immediately clear why the Iranian border guards opened fire, although some reports indicated that the victims had illegally crossed into Iran. Police said the cattle traders regularly took their cattle to Iran to earn better profits.

The Pakistani government said it was in contact with their Iranian counterparts to discuss the return of the bodies.

Earlier this month, Pakistani police detained three Iranian border guards after they allegedly crossed the border and opened fire on a car they had been chasing, killing one Pakistani civilian. Iranian border guards are regularly involved in shootings, sometimes killing civilians after briefly crossing the border into a neighboring country.

If the Iranian border guards were competent enough to arrest Josh Fattal, Sarah Shourd and Shane Bauera alive for alledgedly crossing the border and then charge them with espionage in Iran. Then I think they could have russled up a few cattle herders without killing them. Something smells here.
