Koh Pa Ngan

Hi,

I'm planning a trip to Koh Pa Ngna end of this month, beginning of April. I was going to take the Nok air with Cataraman service, which is about 5000B. return.

Any advice on how you get there via plane? Where to stay, I want quiet and peacful, low budget. Not into the full moon scene, but might check it out.

Stay at Bottle Beach...fly into Surat Thani airport and take the ferry from Donsak.

Thong Nai Pan Yai is also nice...or anywhere on the north coast really.

are you talking about Koh phangan?I'm not sure of the place that you have on here?

I know phangan fairly well.

I heard it is an overnight boat ride from suratani (or guess that option is available), but i might fly to samui instead, if the boat ride is very long...

Is samui worth a stop over?

Flying into Samui would probably be easier, as the boat ride would be very short. But I think it's a much more expensive flight. Samui is quite populated, but still has some nice places to visit. If you have the time, a trip around the island visiting the various beaches can be fun...if you can deal with the traffic.

We stayed at Thong Nai Pan Yai a few years ago and were disappointed. Unfortunately, it was right after the full moon party, so it was full of young backpackers partying all night...and the local resorts held their own FMP every night on a rotating basis. Also, the bay is full of long tail boats...not very peaceful when they fire things up. Just my experience...

Those days are sadly gone for the most part. Cheap places are being replaced by expensive resorts...

There are some lovely spots on Samui...it just depends what you want. If you fly there directly both ways it will cost you around 5k Baht more than if you fly to Surat and take the ferry.

Flying to Samui then taking the hour long ferry to Haad Rin is much easier though.

Where to stay? Bottle Beach 1 2 or 3!!

Edit: Not sure the price of the pick up....just ask them on booking. Probably a pick up to Chaloklum then a long tail boat to the beach.

The boad ride from Samui is only 2 hours, and quite pleasant.

I have stayed here : http://www.sawadee.com/hotel/kohphangan/coconutbeach/ 3 times in the last 4 years, and always had a super, quiet time.

The beach is excellent, the food is 5* - which is why we returned primarily. The food is Thai and Western, to your choice. It isn't expensive either.

The beach bungalow is best, at about 600B per night, although no air-con. However, being on the beach, the air is cool at night, and a fan, as supplied, is ample. A van drives daily to the local town, and cars are not expensive to hire - maybe 4,000B per week currently.

The venue is quiet, secluded, and yet all available spots of interest are only a short Song Tao, or bus or even taxi ride away.

It is an excellent, family run, friendly place with some of the best food I have tasted - great chef indeed!

yes finding a bungalow is not so hard, but a one with a good cook...so thanks for those replys, I will be alone so will be eating small meals, not the usual thai style with many dishes etc., but those places all look nice and secluded. Question, can you find places as nice on samet, koh chang, koh lan, or koh sri chang in sri ratcha? I live in bkk and would prefer somewhere a little closer as well.
