KANDAHAR CITY, AFGHANISTAN (BNO NEWS) -- At least seven people were killed on early Friday morning when a NATO oil tanker truck crashed into a passenger van in southern Afghanistan, officials said on Saturday.

The accident occurred on Friday at around 9 a.m. local time when the NATO fuel tanker crashed into a passenger van on the Kandahar-Herat highway in the Sra Qala area of Panjwai district in Afghanistan's southern Kandahar province.

Governor spokesman Javed Faisal told Pajhwok Afghan News that the impact caused a fire to break out on both the NATO tanker and the passenger vehicle, which was traveling from Kandahar City to Panjwai. Seven passengers were killed, including two women, while three others were reported injured.

According to district police chief Colonel Sadar Mohammed Nazari, the driver of the truck was speeding when he lost control and hit the passenger van.
