2011 TOILET AWARDS

Country's cleanest toilets recognised

The Nation

BANGKOK: -- Toilets at CentralWorld shopping complex, Suan Luang Rama IX Park and 20 other places in the country have been given Outstanding Toilet Awards for 2011.

Other toilets to get a nod included those at Bang Chak, Piyabut and Tawarawadee Schools, Ayutthaya Polytechnic and Surin Vocational Colleges, Wat Sa Kaeo, Wat Makutkasattriyaram, Uthai Hospital, Ban Phai Khwang Tambon Health Promotion Hospital, Khuan Phasuk Tambon Health Promotion Hospital, Muang Kranuan municipal market, Khamkhuenkaeo Petroleum Ltd, Na Cha-ang and Nakhon Sawan railway stations, Prasart Thong restaurant, Suan Rimkhao restaurant, Banrai Cowboy restaurant, Nong Luang Tambon Administrative Organisation, Konsarn District Public Health Office and Chumphon Provincial Public Health Office.

Deputy Public Health Minister Surawit Khonsomboon said the outstanding toilets had achieved satisfactory scores when assessed according to health, accessibility and safety criteria. Around 55 per cent of public toilets have met the criteria since the health ministry created the award in 2005. A total of 159 public toilets across the country have been honoured as good examples.

The Cabinet agreed to issue ministerial regulations stating that toilets at restaurants and petrol stations must be hygienic; these rules took effect in May.

One thing I find sub-optimal is places like Tesco Lotus there is a line of sinks in the bathroom, but curiously only one has a soap dispenser. This arrangement is common in brand new, modern bathrooms at various places. I don't get it.

It's all based on hand-washing statistics.

Adding to that, how many of those sinks will actually have water coming out of their faucets?

They started with "Clean Government Award", "Clean School Administration Award", "Clean Anti-Corruption Enforcement Award" and of course "Clean Living Award". After receiving absolutely NO NOMINATIONS for the above awards, they had to settle for clean toilets, which were more plentiful than anything in the other categories.

I like the toilets in Fashion Island with the Japanese squity seats. Awesome. One of the only reason I will be dragged there is to sit on them lol.

All toilets in Thailand are filthy though by 1st world standards and it is very rare you would walk in and think "hmm clean, thats a change". Maybe the VIP HiSo only toilets are spotless and these are the ones judged lol

clean or less dirty ?

neither, the ones competing, were never opened for use. so after years it still looks brand spanking newgiggle.gif

Or they had a team of cleaners stay there for a month scrubbing prior to competition.cheesy.gif

Seriously though to be fair, Central does keep its toilets pretty clean, even when you there doing your business, there is always a a female cleaner mopping between your legs and wiping the misfire, did i mention she does it while you still therebiggrin.png

I wonder whether they just looked or actually did a swab test?

Were there paper towels to dry your hands?

Did the electric dryer work?

Right, and I can still smell the urine at the bus stop, as if clorox is illegal in Thailand. And yes, I thought about starting a papertowel business since none can be found, only to be told that they clog the toilets? Maybe they should have garbage cans?

My savior was finding those wet towels in the fridge for 10 baht. Love'em!
