jibberjabberjibberjabber
Could someone with some local knowledge let me know if the bars are planning on being open / serving alcohol this Thursday night? I am tempted to do a quick overnight trip from Bangkok but I'm not sure what the state of play will be due to the religious holiday. Thanks
Johnniey
Are they open today? Today is a day when many Thai women don't have sex.

MJCM
Closed Thurs 2 Aug and Fri 3 Aug. Thurs is a big Buddha day, and Fri is start of Buddhist Lent. Confirmed. Just asked my local 7/11 and they are not selling Alcohol tomorrow and Friday. So if people can't live without beer for 2 days, now is the time to stock up

kyb789
Ask 7-11 and you will get the legal answer. They are an international company and they strictly follow Thailand law to the letter. I think the poster wants to know about those shops that do things descretly. Sometimes you can find them, sometimes you can't. In Bangkok there is always a place or 2 that sells with the shades down. I don't know about Pattaya and would like to hear from the locals as well.

If you want a drink during the day just head to a beach out of the city, where you generally would not know there is a booze ban on at all. I am working in China for another week where they don't have such nonsense, despite being a predominantly Buddhist country. I will miss the 2 days off work though...... Ling Kae
Today is a day when many Thai women don't have sex. I have never heard such nonsense before and yes I had sex with my Thai lady yesterday and my friends had several offers in the bars yesterday!
vickersvc10
9.30PM Thursday and I have just purchased 2 cans of Cheers Xtra at my local 7/11. "No problem" said the friendly cashier "but cannot scan". I guess they take the cash, put it aside until after the Buddha Drought and then somehow balance the books. This really is a crazy country! JakeBKK
the bars in jomtien can open at 6 pm.saturday again.
petercool
Officially, a 6 months sentence and/or a 10,000 baht fine can apply to sellers of alcohol during the designated ban days/hours so it really isn't worth the risk for shop/bar owners in my opinion. phl
The bars are closed, just did a round and all is shut, though some bars have girls sitting outside
jombom
All are not shut. I was in 2 different ones tonight. Passed 2 that were also open, and know of others, that were open.
Ling Kae
I drank beer all day on Jomtien Beach from the beach vendors yesterday, no restriction. There were several groups of Thai families drinking Sangsom mixers as well, seemed like business as usual until that storm hit!
ddpffft
today, friday, its a day as usual, it seems - as they the neighbours are hammering outside again and the "security" was whistling already one hours ago.... everyone happy again... lol
