New law banning drinking on Government premises issued

BANGKOK, 23 August 2012 (NNT) - A Prime Minister’s Office announcement banning the sale and the consumption of alcohol on the premises of government agencies has been published in the Royal Gazette. It will be effective from today, August 23.

The law, earlier proposed by the National Alcohol Policy Committee, states that both the sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages are prohibited in all state enterprises and state agencies, excluding shops, clubs or residences housed in the premises.

The ban will not be imposed on the Excise Department’s Liquor Distillery Organization, however.

The move follows another legislature banning the drinking of alcoholic beverages in public vehicles and in factories, issued on August 8.

Lets pass a law for every possibly imagined scenario and we shall look good.

Hardly a problem, alcohol on government premisses, excluding shops, clubs or residences... w00t.gif

So you work for the government and live in a house that comes with the job. You won't be able to drink at home? Or did I miss something?

Yes, once the amendment will turn the excluding shops, clubs or residences into including shops, clubs or residences.

Will ear medication still be allowed?

Definitely not! It has been banned since the last large-scale crack down, together with ear candles as they can be deployed to better hear discontent about populist policies.

Someone needs to tell Chalerm that. Or maybe they did and he just didn't hear them in his state of roaring deafness.

Charlem has no time to take his "ear-medicine" He has to get his "butt" down to Pattaya and Phuket, he has some cleaning up to do and time is running out.

I wonder if the lawmakers toasted the first bit of legislation they have managed to get successfully implemented in a long, long time.

I wonder if Chalerm broke into his supply of ear medicine at Government House?

I guess the Pollies will have to be sober when they make and pass pieces of legislation. Also I guess no more formal dinners at Parliarment house either.

"The ban will not be imposed on the Excise Department’s Liquor Distillery Organization, however".

Does this mean that they are still manually testing for alcohol content by taste?

Reads like they are distilling it too!! Excise Department Own Brand - wonder how many degrees proof?
