Realize you guys are not magicians but I have some young backpacker friends coming to visit in October (yes, I told them not to). They want to spend a day+ in CR and a few in CM seeing major temples and the "old city" of CM.

They also have on agenda Sukothai but I have been able to dissuade them of that one.

What will be their issues in the north in October? Do they need addl days or not to bother (floods, rain, stormy skies...).

Early to mid October.

Thanks.

Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai are not places to be rushed through on a tight schedule, but sultry seductive landscapes to become immersed in and savored. My suggestion would be to allow more time not less. As Scea says, this is a beautiful time of year and a few drops of water take nothing away from that beauty. Come and enjoy.smile.png

The lack of time is typical of tourists. Judging by the comments I see they may have rain but no need to worry about flooding as in Sukothai presently.

I don't see October as the tail end of the monsoon any longer as it has essentially now been compressed into six weeks, but thank you for your observations.

Like most mountainous regions we get flash flooding but except in the low lying areas it doesn't hang around long.

I think our region offers plenty for long and short term tourists, a day is a little short to get he feel of the place though.

I'd spend a few hours at the white Temple out of that.

October is the transition month from wet to dry. However, if your friends come early October - there is still a good chance of rain - although probably not as intense as September rains. Next weather update will be in 12 hours....

Yes, that appears to be their sole goal - the temple. So I hope they have blue skies. Thx

You should tell/advice them to visit Black Village north of town. That is much more interesting than White Temple in my opinion.

Search this forum and you will find more info and also photos. Search for Black Village/Black Temple.
