Thai Tandoori Oven

Thai people have always been good with their hands,as the many superb

Handicrafts confirm, also at adapting things to their needs, some maybe a

bit Heath Robinson but they seem to work.

One man in Raumchok Market had a simple idea and turned it into

successful small enterprise,he started out with 1 Ceramic water tub,

those brown ceramic pots ,they usually have Dragon motifs on the side,

So for minimum outlay he was up and running, hangs the chickens, ribs

and other meats from wires hanging on the rim, pops on the lid and the

meat cooks Tandoori style but not with Indian spices.and the taste is

just wonderful, much better than the CP rotary chickens.

Been a Curryhead myself I have always wanted a Tandoori oven, but

finding where to have one made and at what cost?, So as soon as I

find time I will have one ,dont think those water butts can be much

more than bht1000,depends on size I suppose.then I am thinking

turn one on its side, fixing it securely, bit of tinkering on the inside

could make a handy small Pizza oven.

Back to the guy at Raumchok Market, hes expanded, now has 2

ovens going, and a display case for the cooked meats,he has a

stand at the front of the market, I have no connection with him

just respect him, from a simple idea ,not much expense into good

small business.

Regards Worgeordie.

Sausage King did have a tandoori oven build and there are only 2 tandoori ovens in Chiang Mai.if you are thinking to build one yourself then i would say don't bother as the guys who built my tandoori oven that is nothing like a pizza oven had so many important points of very old technology built into it.If the important points were not built into the oven during construction then your naan breads would not stick to the inside of the oven.We use our oven to tandoori our chicken for all sausage king curries.

I know the one going to push my luck and see if you can tell me where JJ market is. I thought it was in the Holiday Inn area. Is that the one about across the street from the Rimping Condos?
