Australian spots her stolen Jewelry at shop inside Tesco-Lotus in North Pattaya

PATTAYA:--The owner of a Jewelry Shop in North Pattaya is facing prosecution after an Australian home-owner spotted items which had been stolen from her house in September being sold at the shop.

A 10 Million Baht Burglary occurred on 28th September at the house of an Australian national, Mrs. Jacqueline Christopher, in Soi Kao Noi, East Pattaya who lives with her Thai Husband Khun Sarawut. The break-in was reported to Banglamung Police who were contacted by Mrs. Christopher on Monday afternoon after she spotted some of her stolen jewelry being displayed for sale at a shop located on the 1st floor of the Tesco-Lotus Store on the North Pattaya Road.

The Police joined Mrs. Christopher who picked-out the stolen items at the Manasporn Jewels Shop owned by Khun Manasaporn aged 50 and matched them to the original report of the stolen items. A worker at the shop Khun Giradar aged 26 claimed the items were sold to the shop last month by a Thai woman. The shop owner stated to Police she was unaware the items had been stolen. A selection of necklaces, pendants and diamond rings were seized as evidence

Love it,

"Police wanted to check CCTV which was installed at the shop, however it was a newly installed system which was not in operation when the items were brought to the shop by the female suspect."

I wonder if Sgt Somchai asked to see receipts for the newly installed system to see if the dates match.

"A 10 Million Baht Burglary"

I have a total lack of sympathy with the sort of pea-brain who has 10MB worth of jewellery lying around waiting to be stolen.

Such a shame that the police have to waste their time on bling thefts. There are many useful things they could be doing, like breath-testing drunk drivers etc.

Where does it say that they had 10 million Bath worth of jewelry lying around waiting to be stolen? The article said that the house was burglarized for 10 MB. That could mean artwork, jewelry, cash etc. For all you know it was all locked up in a safe that was cracked open.

My advice; try not to let you envy show quite so clearly.

It doesnt matter what made up the 10MB, if it is in a private house it cannot have been anything other than pointless bling and I have zero sympathy for whoever lost it.

Jewellery is bling, by the way. And art should be in a gallery and cash should be in the bank. There is no valid reason (apart from crass stupidity) to have any of it at home, either lying around or in a safe.

Now, tell me that someone had their laptop stolen, or their car, or their vacuum cleaner, or their wallet and ID, and I will be suitably sympathetic as these are possessions that someone might actually need in their day to day life, as opposed to possessions that serve no practical purpose apart from making the owner feel (erroneously) that they are worth something.

As for envy, you are mistaken. I retired at 50 and I have more money than I will ever spend. I couldn't give a monkey's about what bling other people have, which is precisely why it annoys me to see the police wasting their time chasing after bling when there are a million more important things they could be doing with their time.

so bling is everything beyond everyday practical items?! Not everyone wants to live like a monk...

Nice contradiction.

I think there is a site rule about not editing quotes to make them appear to say something other than what they actually said.

And of course it does make the person who did the editing look like an idiot.

Not at all. A price tag does not confer beauty. I have some beautiful things also, it's just that they didn't cost 10MB and I doubt that anyone would steal them if they broke into my place (which they would have trouble doing anyway as it is quite secure). I also have an expensive TV and computer, and various other expensive household items, but I doubt that anyone would be stealing those either as they are barely portable. And if someone did steal them my insurance would cover the loss. I also have a lot of cash, but it is in the bank where it belongs and not stuffed under my mattress waiting for someone to steal it.

I just dont see why the state (ie everyone) should have to pay for the police services to look for peoples' bling and other valuables when they get stolen from insecure places, especially as it is obviously going to happen more often than thefts of day-to-day items.

I have exactly the same lack of sympathy for people who have gold snatched from around their necks, or who lose large amounts of cash to pickpockets on Beach Rd. They are all fools.

I have zero sympathy for people who are robbed of large sums like 10MB, as I clearly mentioned.

Shame on me? How odd. I would say shame on the idiot who is stupid enough to have such a large amount stolen and apparently not to have insurance for it.

Where does it say that there was no insurance?

It doesn't. It doesn't say what made up the 10MB either. But in my experience insurance cover is not so easy to come by for 10MB worth of portable valuables.

If they did have insurance then there is even less to be worrying about. Not that I will be losing any sleep either way.

If you were robbed, wouldn't you call police if you saw your things in a pawn shop?
