ovenman
Neither renting a house nor opening a bank account should pose a problem but unless the rules have changed recently, I don't think you can register a cell phone in your name without a work permit ("register" meaning a postpaid account). The simplest route for obtaining a cell phone number is a prepaid number. Otherwise, get a Thai friend to register the number in their name (the bill can be sent directly to you). ovenman
You can set up a company in Thailand with or without a company abroad. There are people around this board that specialize in helping people with just that but if your reason for wanting a work permit is merely to register a phone in your name, don't even consider this any further. A quick search through the board should give you an idea of the scope of what would be involved in setting up a Thai company.
